i believe every day's a good day when you paint
[...so, shortly after breakfast, there's a note posted to the refrigerator door (and well, shoved under Elda's door, all things considered) in handwriting that's come to be really easily recognizable in its jankiness.]
YO. WE HAVE PAINTS. WE HAVE SPRAY PAINT. WE ARE ALLOWED TO DO WHATEVER WE WANT TO THE WALLS AS LONG AS WE DON'T BREAK THEM.
LET'S MAKE THE ACADEMY'S WALLS OUR CANVAS.
BE IN THE ART STUDIO AT 6:00.
[At the appointed time, when those interested walk into the art studio, they'll see that holy shit, Guzma got a lot of paints out of the storage room and put them all over the tables. There's a lot of stuff there, ready for everyone to grab and spread out all over the academy and paint all over everything.]

She's never...used spray paint before...but she wanders about, not really making a lot of pictures, but rather random lines, in white or black or blue.
In the foyer however, she's spraying a few things, on the wall where...actually, where Kageshirou was last week. They are a few kanji, all in black.]
景史郎
SHOOT ME IF YOU WANT idek
So is that its name?
[ She's not sure she's reading it right. The tail end looks right. ]
CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP
That's how I intended it to be written, though there are other options. ...Are you familiar with the meaning of each kanji?
[There are so many kanji, so she understands if not.]
YEAH!!! (rofl im sorry I keep doing us four threads)
[ She studies that first one ]
it's fine i've had four threads with people in murdergames before lmao
[But as for that first one-] That is "Kage," like shadow. Easy, right? In this order, it would usually be read as "Kei" but with names you can be a little creative, you know?
tbh I've had that in normal games sometimes.
Keishirou does sound a lot more like a name, though.
[ She nods though, you can be. She actually hums, trying to remember how the younger generation have taken to writing Maaka as opposed to Marker? She ... hmm. 真紅? It's that ]
no subject
It does...but Kage works better, in this case. It's shadow, like what this creature is made of. [She looks a little thoughtful.] I...have started to reconsider which kanji to use, though, for the "Shi" and the "Rou."

[ Now sitting (well, more crouching like a frog, that is) next to Hanyuu she sort of watches her and her work. Or, if she stopped, Elda is reaching out to brush her nail against the "kage" part of it ]

影死郎
[And why yes that is not the same kanji I had up there but you know sometimes you copypaste the wrong one from your big research document retcon that first kanji is the same one that's been drawn the whole time]
The first and last are the same but the middle one... There are so many ways to write "Shi."
no subject
Aren't retcons great though? ]
Yeah, that one does seem more fitting.
no subject
"Death."]
I could write it like this too.
[She writes another character beneath the "Shi" spot, so it looks like so:]
影死郎
影史郎
四
["Shi."
"Four."]
Just make it simple, let anyone choose...whatever meaning they want to ascribe to it. It seems fitting for this place, with so little answers, doesn't it?
no subject
[ So little answers... ]
I received a response to one of my letters, but I don't yet know which one. I'm seeking more answers.
no subject
[It looks like she's going to write something else, but what Elda says gives her pause.]
Really? Something you did got a letter across? Oh... Oh, I'm so glad to hear that...! With a little more experimenting, we can talk to them.
no subject
[ . . . She's hoping this. Um. Well, that this makes her happy?
Waving a hand theatrically ]
no subject
Oh.... Ohhh, please, oh please... To be able to speak with them again, in whatever way...it would be such a relief.
no subject
[ Probably. At the very least, she got some results, and that's given her a certain degree of confidence. ]
For now though, want to make a dual project?
[ She asked, taking out her own purple spray can ]
no subject
影死郎
影史郎
四
志
What sort of project do you have in mind?
no subject
Well, maybe we could do something with bats? Or if there's some notable local animal for Hinamizawa... Perhaps down on the second floor?
[ So they can head to the stairwell.
And unknowingly get caught up in that Watanuki thing. ]
no subject
[AW YEAH LET'S TRANSITION INTO ANOTHER THREAD- though, Hanyuu catches Elda's eye and explains-]
"Intention" or "motives" ...or "hope." Kanji that can mean multiple things...are the most interesting, for me.
[...She's not quite done, though. She starts writing another.]
影死郎
影史郎
四
志
影白
no subject
They'd be prey for my bats.
[ But she says it somewhat sentimentally??
She shakes her head. She sees the new Kanji, frowning at it also, but well, she'll think on it later. ]
You will need to explain how shat kanji works for that shadow. [ But she motions for Hanyuu to follow her. Let's walk and talk except not much more than if it's a quick explanation because thread transition ]
no subject
Of course. ...The first one, I think of because of our host's Tuesday tradition. [Motives.] I think of that, and also...whatever the creature could be, what other natures it could have.
For the second... In the letter Alani wrote me, that's...how it showed up. I'm sure it was a translation error. Where she wrote it as Kageshiro instead of Kageshirou. [The difference probably not noticeable to one unfamiliar with Japanese.] ...But it was...interesting. Those two kanji next to each other.
"Shadow." "White."
Contradictory.
no subject
[ Which is lame, given how long she's spoken and heard Japanese, but there you are. ]
no subject
no subject
[ She's... genuinely surprised at that. ]
... I'm trilingual, myself. What about you?
[
but tbh for our own sanity we should end the thread with them going to Watanuki after this]no subject
YEAH I'M JUST GONNA BOOMERANG THIS TIL IT'S DONE THEN WORK ON THE OTHERS]Just bilingual. ...It's been so long, though, I don't know if I could fluently speak the Ryuun language, or...well, there's no real need to, you know?
