[After 10:00 p.m., the library's... definitely a little different. The tables have lit candles on them, and there are... kind of janky cardboard cutouts set on some of the shelves. An attempt was made, at least, even if there could've been more boxes destroyed in the attempt...

But regardless. There's candles set around a place for some snacks if anyone wants to bring them, and there's also a blanket set on one of the tables. Because clearly, that's where the storyteller's supposed to sit...? Maybe you wanna do it. Maybe you just want to stand or sit or something.

Yeah, I just heard about it on the internet. Surprisingly the town hasn't been overrun by ghosts or anything.

At least, that's what they want you to think, anyway.

There are a lot of places that I can start.

Let's try the part where we have talking animals, too. Our world isn't like Judy's - our animals aren't smart like her. They're just normal animals, they mill around and do their own thing, I think the smartest we've got is maybe on par with a toddler? But even then, they're nowhere near on par with the rest of us.

But once in a while, you come across something weird.

See, we've got a special sort of alchemy that kind of...makes animals. They're called chimeras - creatures that have been alchemically merged with something else, with some other animal or another.

They say some guy specialized in making chimeras, melding two animals together into one distinct creature. He'd had a bunch of hardships happen in his life right before he figured it out, but he really threw himself into his work after his wife left him. He claimed that he'd managed to make chimeras that could talk and had human-level intelligence. When the State tried to verify his work, he showed it to them, and was able to prove that he'd actually succeeded in doing what he'd said, merging one of his large pet dogs with something else.

The thing was? All the animal did was beg for death. "Kill me," over and over again, in a woman's voice.

Well, you're supposed to answer that stuff as vaguely as possible and let people come to their own conclusions, man. That's how you tell a good ghost story!

Striking back won't do a single bit of good in the end. No matter who is more powerful, in the end, violence to end violence only causes more violence.

[Well, all right, edgelord, let's talk about the laboratories.]

Our country was founded after that other one went under - we still don't know where it went, as I said, but as far as we're concerned that's reasonably far back in the history books. Not really relevant to us anymore. We built our country, and we're thriving pretty well; we've got a strong military and the ability to use alchemy to make our lives easier.

Again, money. Education. High enough quality of life, even if that life's probably going to be cut short if you're in the military - the country's at war almost all the time, just how things go for us.

But there are talks of things below the surface that are a little...unsavory, I guess. Unfortunate.

They say there are places beneath Central Prison, where the death row inmates are brought to die - where they bring our war criminals and our murderers, people that no one's going to miss and bodies no one's going to claim after the fact. Normally we grant people like that some sort of supposedly humane execution - shoot them, hang them, whatever.

Not in those places below the prison, though. The ones that are brought there are...special.

They say that the people brought below the prison are led in a room with walls made of tempered glass, the unbreakable stuff. And behind the walls is a huge amount of red water.

Alchemically activating that red water doesn't kill people, supposedly - it rips their souls out.

What happens to them afterwards, I've got no idea. But that's the rumor. Human sacrifices, for god only knows what reason.

Good question. It's not like I've met the guy personally, so I can't exactly ask him.

Oh. Well, I guess I've gotta be Professor Guzma again, then! Z-crystals are these things that you use to get your Pokemon to do these really crazy superpowered attacks once a battle... if you've got a Z-ring, anyway. Otherwise you're up a creek without a paddle.

There's one for each type, but I think outside of those eighteen there are a few that are just for specific Pokemon, too.
