There once was a man named Sisyphus who thought he could outsmart the gods, and in punishment, he was cursed to roll a boulder up a hill. Every time he reached the top, it would roll back to the bottom, and he would have to start again. He was cursed to never achieve the goal he had to accomplish to atone, so in that sense, he can never atone. It is his struggle, for eternity.
