[Not really. Any of Alphys' side projects are irrelevant. All Mouri is attempting is to evaluate how willing would Mettaton to cover for Alphys.

If there's one thing Mouri at least has a decent grasp on it is interpersonal relationships. One didn't need to be very perceptive to notice Mettaton is being protective, so Mouri is trying to see how far that would go.
