Week 5.

WEEK 5 Three more have joined the deceased this past week. Taichi Yagami was punished for breaking a rule, Megumi Sakura was killed, and Norman Bates... well, the less said about Norman, the better. A third of you are dead now; your losses are becoming more and more evident with each passing week. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible fifth floor. ....I never thought of it, but that is strange. I only know English.

[And some terrible broken German, but that's not the point.]

Maybe it's written in code? Or maybe because the language isn't something represented by one of us, none of us can understand it. Whatever the Kingmaker did to make us understand each other doesn't count if he can't understand it or something.

If its written in code, it would explain why it doesn't translate over for us.

[He didn't quite think of it that way before... namely because its hard to consistently keep writing everything in a code. Bruce knows this pretty well.]

So whatever languages we can understand depends on him...? [He only.... vaguely glances over to Cherryblod here.] For us from Earth its not hard to imagine, but for the others...

[What language do they even speak, anyway.]

I mean, I could be wrong. But a universal translator sounds like something outta scifi. We shouldn't discount any possibility, right?

We already know there are different worlds and realities - [As evidenced by... well, all of them.] - so obviously there will be a lot more possibilities to consider.

[...basically yes, they shouldn't discount it.]

I guess the question is, if we're findin' things written in code, who the hell left them?

It can't be easy to try to cheat the system like that.

If its not the Kingmaker - and it certainly can't be any of us here - then it is most likely somebody who was here before us.

[...which sort of takes out credibility of floors magically appearing since people can't exactly leave things in places that hadn't existed yet.]

...if people were here before us, I wonder how the Kingmaker is blockin' off floors.

Magic? Science? Some combination of the two?

[Bruce really wishes he could just discredit 'magic', but considering Asgard... and Loki... and Thor...

Yeah.]

...it wouldn't be the first for me, at least.

Someone actually capable of gettin' answers out of the Kingmaker would have to get his opinion on magic, and even then, I don't know if he'd tell the truth.

['Somebody actually getting answers out of Kingmaker' = Sigrun.

Except that she probably wouldn't be able to ask it well.]

He'd probably say something to mislead us if we hit the nail on the head.

It still might be worth the attempt, if only because the Kingmaker refusing to answer properly isn't a no, exactly.]

Probably. Gotta keep up his advantage.

I wouldn't put it past him to do anything to ensure that he maintains that, either.

[Bruce would be surprised if he actually had limits in the first place.]

Has he ever said something that's an outright lie so far?

He doesn't seem like he likes people enough to bother talkin' to them, let alone lie.

He told us our own world was destroyed.

[Gabriel, please.]

An obvious lie is different from subtle ones, though. Innit?

...yeah.

[Just... taking a moment to think here.]

But even so, its still a lie in the end. [And one probably meant to manipulate them.]

We'll figure 'im out. What he's up to, why he's doing this...

We have to. Somehow.

Once we figure out the answers, then the unknown stops being as terrifying.

[Which means yes, they have to figure it out. Once they know what the Kingmaker really wants, they can figure out the rest.]

You're right.

We'll solve this big mystery he's set up. Before it's too late.
