Take...Responsibility?

Unlike previous weeks in the Vault, there was no specifically allotted time for investigation; for the first time, this weekend the elevator doors remain closed at the end of the first floor corridor. There's no getting down into the courtroom from here – but then, you don't need to. After all, no one is dead. Just the same, however, a crime has been committed; perhaps not one that warrants any sort of death penalty, but one of your number was attacked by someone else still walking among you. The dining hall has been chosen as the allotted meeting place for the day; it's not the same as the trial circle by a long shot, but even so, the portraits of the deceased watch the proceedings from the far wall. Ten Survivors still remain. Let's see who wanted to lower that number by one – or nine.

[Bruce stares down at his hands at this point and lets out yet another sigh.]

It's more a question of 'what' was taken away from me.

The first week. Shizaru asked about powers.

I said I didn't have any.

[And that is the most honest answer he can give.]

I asked the Kingmaker once. He told me I wasn't at risk - but I can't simply take the words at face value. I've devoted years trying to cure myself and I'm not convinced its so simply fixed just like this.

...well, I can't say much about that. You need Ford, not me.

But we've got universes' worth of resources, if we live long enough to get outta here. If there's a way, we'll find it.

[A pause, and then a soft, amused sound this time, accompanied by a bitter smile.]

It's ironic, though. This would be the one place where actually having my powers would benefit me instead of the opposite.

...my field of research was the initial reason, at the very least - they needed somebody experienced in the field of gamma radiation and I was the pioneer for that field.

[In case it wasn't obvious how much of a nerd he truly is.]

The powers were just... something else I already had at that point in time.
