I'll wait, so show me why you're strong
[And so the day's trial for the attempted murder of Gabriel Knight draw to a close with... charitably better results then usual.
They were alive, at the least, but that didn't mean there wasn't several blows against the trust that had been built up here. One mole that attempted murder, another that quit, and another that was given the offer no doubt put strain on several relationships... most notably Sigrun's.
It was all, in a word... frankly shitty. But now it's all out there, no sense in trying to get it back.
An hour (or two) after the "trial" ends and everyone's gone off on their own business, Speedwagon heads back to the kitchen. It was the usual plan in mind, what they did after every trial. And everyone, regardless of what was said or done, would soon find a note being slipped under their door.]
[Name],
There's gonna be food in the dining hall, in case anyone's got an appetite for it.
I know some might want to be alone after that mess of an investigation, but if you don't then the offer's as open as it's always been.
I'd say sticking together might still be safer then not.
-R E.O. Speedwagon
[And yes, folks that arrive in the dining hall will find a nice spread of sandwiches, soup, and what leftovers Speedwagon could scrounge out of the fridge. Speedwagon isn't the best cook in the group, but there's definitely stuff here that's good enough to eat.
...Sigrun's 'masterpiece' was, thankfully, left out of this. Keeping folks alive is the goal, after all.]

How'd it go?
no subject
Fairly well. He's compiling all his notes and things he's learned about the bastard right now for us, but he's not getting his phone back after that. I'm keeping it. Probably. He's also staying in my line of sight at all times, minus the bathroom.
[She'll give him that privacy at least.]
Which means he's my new sleeping buddy too. Indefinitely. No one's locking him up, which is good, and we all came to this decision without quarrel.
[What else...]
I ended up deciding to search Mettaton's room since... you know, since he was working with the bastard too, and there wasn't much but sentimental stuff. Everything important was on his phone like I thought it might be.
no subject
[...he's really glad to hear about the bathroom thing.]
no subject
You won't be able to do that again, Cherry. [She knows he'll probably refute this, maybe, a part of her hopes he does.] You and Bruce need to take up the reins.
[Since she's not fit, by anyone's standards.]
no subject
...I'd really rather not, you know. Being your right hand man was an honor.
no subject
[...]
It'd be best to put it to a vote, though I really don't want to see everyone who raises their hand in firm rejection of it. It's wrong to assume one way or another. I just need you to be ready to share leadership with Bruce if it comes down to it.
no subject
[He doesn't have a lot he can use to argue against that. It had been clear that plenty of them were angry at Sigrun for pulling the same stunt twice.
But...]
For the record, if I ever kill someone?
Don't do this.
no subject
I can't promise anything, Cherry. You're in the list of people I'd go to great lengths for, but... I'll try to resist the best I can.
[Even if it means handing off the evidence or anything to someone else. Both times her leadership had been called into question by Bruce the accused had defended her, and she's not sure Cherrywould offer her a third time anyway.]
Just let me know if you actually killed someone so I don't defend a hopeless case instead of dancing around it.
no subject
[That's about as much as he can expect from her. Of course she wouldn't give up her values, even if he asked her not to defend him.]
I can't think of any situation but one in which I'd kill someone if you were still alive, anyway. But that might just mean I'm not creative.
no subject
[... Black's probably too into his notes to hear that jab, which is good, and she leans against the table.]
Though, you know, two for two so far. You're definitely not hiding anything from me, right?
[It's the quietest plea, even in if it's light and teasing in form. Please don't be another betrayal waiting. Please don't be.]
no subject
[...But he hesitates a moment before adding something.]
The night after Mettaton's trial, I asked the Kingmaker if he'd ever consider an incentive allowing someone else to graduate in the culprit's place. He said he'd consider it.
That's the closest I've gotten to collaborating. I swear to you on my daughter's good name, that's it.
no subject
Like hell he'd go through with that. Who would you have used it on, if it came up?
no subject
Yosuke. He's young enough - he might recover from this. I don't think you would take it as well if I did it for you.
no subject
I definitely wouldn't have. Flattering, but please, it doesn't matter where I go, where I am. So long as I've got someone to lead.
[... So much for that...]
I think I would've done it for you though. Wouldn't matter if you hated me or not for it, you're the first person to come to mind. Black's second, then Yosuke.
[Mettaton would've been first, really, but that goes without saying. She probably would've asked he could put Mettaton in her world too.]
no subject
[He's known he was a disaster for hundreds of years, so it's not exactly news. He just sounds resigned, mostly.]
I wouldn't have hated you. Just questioned your taste.
no subject
[There's a pause there, like she's going to say something else, and she sighs.]
Which... isn't true, I guess. I have five others in my team and many more back home, all waiting for my return, even if they've probably moved on by now. But your people need you more than mine do -- mine have a back-up leader.
no subject
[Just... bluntly said, with the kind of smile he wears when he doesn't really care enough to put on one that seems happy.
His are probably dead.]
no subject
I lied. There's another spoonful of soup.]
I won't take that quitter talk from you, Cherryblod. [Full name.] Your family's fine.
no subject
...You're right, as usual. Was going to go back to be certain anyway.
no subject
They'll be fine, darling. You'll come home and the world will have gone to shit, but they'll be the bright spot in the dark, and then you and your sea witch will fix it all.
[Yes.]
no subject
That's what will happen. I'm sure.
no subject
[Doubt all you please. And not leader anymore, probably.
She'll nudge Black's side though.]
Kitten, can you spare your attention for a few minutes?
no subject
very hesitantly looking up from his notebook. ]
...yes?
no subject
He wants to know how you're holding up too.
no subject
Doing alright, Black?
