You wake with the unshakable feeling that you shouldn't be here. Perhaps you were in the middle of something, perhaps you weren't. Either way, you're waking up in an unfamiliar location with no recollection of how you got here. The room you've woken up in is sparsely-decorated, though that might be difficult to tell at first given how nice the beds are...but eventually you'll notice a few things that are a little...off. Maybe the scent is striking you wrong - it's clean, but it's not yours. Maybe your bed back home doesn't support your back in quite this way. Maybe you should be seeing sunlight through your window by now. Maybe you should have a window in the first place. This isn't right, but leaving the room won't give you any more answers. You might want to grab the silver key sitting on your trunk on the way out. Don't worry though, you aren't all alone here. Once you step outside your room into the hallway, you'll notice that a few others are emerging from their rooms as well. It looks like they're just as confused and concerned as you are. Feel free to talk to them, but none of you know how exactly you wound up here and maybe some useful information can be found by exploring. If you follow the hallway to its end (and it's a very long hallway), you'll eventually arrive in the foyer. You'll find some very interesting information about yourselves on the wall near the clock. Perhaps even more importantly, if you look on the other side of the multi-pendulumed thing, you'll find other framed information that you might want to pay attention to. It could very well be the key to escaping this strange place, after all. Don't worry if you forget the rules, you can find them in every room of the building. Of course, search as you might, you won't find a doorway or a window of any sort. Getting out won't be so easy, it seems. But who knows? Perhaps your fellow captives have something to say about all of this. Welcome to Chronos University.

It's no trouble at all. I know how tough it can be sometimes. Having a friend to lean on during those times can make all the difference.

You're not the first one to tell me that, honestly. But even if it turns out to not be true, I'd like to think it's a fortunate side-effect of whatever our purpose is here.

Me? I'm Watanuki Kimihiro.

[He said that in the traditional way: Last name, then given.]

You can call me whichever you like. What should I call you?

Watanuki. [She is one to use given names more often, but she understands the importance of easing into that.]

I am Hanyuu. Furude Hanyuu, though the name belonged to my husband, not me.

[Likewise, she replies traditionally, even though technically neither name was her birth one.]

[Oh, so she's married! Or...possibly former-married, since she did say she had been alone and all.]

So...Hanyuu then?

[She gave him that name first, so he's going to assume that's what she wanted him to call her.]

Well it's nice to meet you, Hanyuu.

[Yeah, Riku's been dead for.....a very long time. Regardless, she gently nods.]

You have no... Well, I suppose it seems like...you may have an idea of how nice it is. I'm not the first you've spoken to like this?

[Watanuki shakes his head.]

I've been able to see spirits my whole life. Some have been nice, like you. Some have just wanted someone to talk to, since most people can't see them anymore. Others...well, I'm sure you already know how dangerous it can be.

...Yes. Yes, not all of my kind were peaceful, so I'm very much aware.

[Day-in and day-out, fighting Mixed-bloods, the Pureblood who turned on his own kind...]

I'm surprised, though. I've never...obviously, you're the first like yourself I've ever met, or even heard of. There are people out there who can naturally see spirits? Really?

Yeah. We're a rarity, but we're out there. I think most people like me keep quiet about it, though. Most people can't see spirits, so those who can and talk about it are called liars and treated like outcasts.

The world of men is resistant to that which it fears or doesn't understand. Nevertheless, I am grateful for your ability, if nothing else.

I'll admit, I'm glad for it too. My life's been much more interesting because of it.

[Much more painful too. And much more frightening. But the good and bad all come together.]

Eventful, but worthwhile, yes?

Yes. I wouldn't say it's 'lucky', exactly, but I think it helped me grow into who I am today.

[He's not going to mention the fact that his entire motivation for working at a wish shop is to eventually get rid of this power. Hanyuu doesn't need to know that fact.]
