WEEK 1 Now that you've had a chance to yell at the Wordsmith, one thing is very clear. He wasn't lying. There's no escape from this place. You can explore all you like, but there aren't any ways to leave. It seems like there isn't much to do but settle in and get to know your fellow Apprentices. You're free to go wherever you'd like for the most part, but come 10PM the doors to the kitchen and the mail room will shut and lock and nothing you can do will get them to open. While you might be tempted to sleep in, you'll find that the clock in the foyer goes off every morning at 7AM and again in the evenings at 10PM without fail. You'll be able to hear it no matter where you are; it seems it's being broadcast over the PA system. You're welcome to go back to sleep after you hear it, but surely you don't want to spend the whole day in bed? (Unless you were out exploring all last night. In which case, go back to bed, damn.) They're not very rare at all! In fact, as long as they're in season, you can find them in lots of places-- sometimes they even grow in the wild!

Not where I lived, no. Strawberry tarts were only enjoyed by the courts at that time.

That's not fair! Strawberries should get to be enjoyed by everybody! [socialistacus]

They are nowadays, but it took a very long time for that to happen. I've seen- oh, this recent restaurant, it's just started up, but they have so many kinds of pastries and goods, and so many are covered in strawberries!

That's [a complete waste of good strawberries] great!

Did you not get a chance to visit it before you came here? [but he's starting to think, like. "it's weird that she has never eaten any of these.]

Of course not. Oh, I didn't have a physical form for a very long time. Until now, that is. [REALLY she should just hold an ama]

You could say that. I was unable to do anything but watch for centuries, so everything here is...it's taking time to discover.

Not quite the first time for some, but...for many. Like trying kinds of foods, or using those impressively labeled soaps in the laundry room. [still gotta tackle that one] I've...missed experiencing, that's true.

I can't imagine a life without experiencing anything. You're very strong for getting through that!

You are! [he sounds slightly in wonder about it.] And for as long as you did... I couldn't go five minutes without experiencing something!
