[ Generally, people need time to cope and gather themselves after a... thing... like that. Unfortunately, that's not how Vanille sees it. Her thing is avoid, and once she gets out of that hellhole that's the courtroom, she makes her way to the supplies closet, then to the library. She spends some time setting up things, pushing things aside to make room. Once she's finished, and she's met up with the Party Brigade, she makes enough invitations for everyone. She slips them under everyone's doors, or hands them out if she sees someone walking around.

Inside the library, there are candles set up to provide some soft, comforting lighting. There are pots of tea, courtesy of Mercy, pancakes made by Viktor, and books (picked out by Estelle, of course) laid out on the surrounding tables. The others have provided their own touches, and Vanille's even managed to make something: sugar cookies, which are actually very good. They're flavored lightly with all sorts of flavors--not all in the same cookie, okay--and each plate is marked with whatever flavor she's put in them.

After a successful trial, it's healthy to indulge, right? Let's mingle. ]

[ ...She's not interested in much of anything period, but that's not really the point here. ]

...It's a little better than the bar I work at. They've only got books on booze.

[ She's almost reluctant to ask SHE HATES ALL THESE THINGS SHE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT UGH. She sighs. ]

[ Oh no Alani— ]

Don't worry about it. [ ...what's a good way to explain this. ] It's alcohol, spirits... Whatever you want to call it. It doesn't happen that often at the bar, but—people tend to get drunk off the stuff. You know: they drink more, think less.

[ That sounds catchy. ]

Ohhhh. I think some of the elders talk about that sort of stuff sometimes, but we don't really... keep any on grounds.

[ Ocean religion, amirite? ]

And a bar is where they sell it, then?

That's right. [ Good job, good job. ] I really wouldn't expect a monastery to have any on its grounds.

[ unless it was like... for rituals or something? Maybe? she doesn't know. ]

Yeah, we're pretty against non-natural stuff. Just... seaweed and fish. The elders are fasting half the time anyway.

Have you been keeping to that diet here, or have you splurged a little?

At the risk of incriminating myself, I can confirm that cookies and pancakes are delicious.

[ Besides, who heard of a diet without essentials. ]

That's not all you've been eating though, is it? [ our local health guy would freak if it was, don't do that ]

No, I've been eating other stuff too. It's easy to find new things to try when you've only ever had a diet of a few things before. Plus things like sauces and ovens don't work underwater, so plenty to try! Maybe I'll even get a chance to try booze somewhere down the line.

If we ever find a bar or get some someone, I'll pour you a glass.

[ ...She could probably mix drinks, she has probably read the fucking booze books after all. What else is there to do when you're waiting for guests?? ]

Yeah, and nothing I recognize. [ ......... ] I don't read a lot of fiction, so I'm not sure I'd recognize any anyway.

You have one up on me, I pretty much just read religious texts. [ Monkhood, man. ] And these books are mostly set way in the past too, but that makes sense since I think I'm from way in the future compared to everyone else here.

Hadn't really thought about that. [ ...she's a little curious where she is compared to most people, admittedly, but she also can't really seem to remember the year, either. ] Does everyone live underwater in the future, or is that just your order?

Just those of us on planets that are entirely ocean. [ :D ] We're pretty unique, though, yeah.

Are you okay being out of water for this long? [ IF YOUR ENTIRE PLANET IS OCEAN... THEN... ]

Oh, yeah! I'm fine, actually, I come from a different planet, but my parents left me there when I was born. So I'm built for out of water, but they gave me gills surgically so I could live with them at the monastery.

[ OH okay, good. ]

That's lucky. [ ...Also incredible. ] What's it like under the ocean? I've never been.

Well... it's dark. We're pretty far from our star, so we don't get a lot of light, but it's quiet and peaceful. Kiiind of prime monk real estate, if you can handle the pressure. ... the water pressure, not... you know.

[ She giggles a little at her own joke, because she's a loser. ]

But it really is beautiful. We only have the range of vision our Syl can provide, but... [ She glows a little to demonstrate! ] It's enough to really focus on what you can see with it, you know?

[ ...that was actually really cute and funny, Alani no... ]

It sounds amazing. [ The glow thing's pretty cool, too. And pretty pretty. ] Has it been hard to adjust to here?

It's really bright and dry, but... I'm managing alright. As well as anyone else, anyway.

I guess if you're really missing "dark and wet," you can just turn off the lights and sit underwater.
