ravagers: (desperate struggle)

i'll wait, so show me why you're strong

[ Generally, people need time to cope and gather themselves after a... thing... like that. Unfortunately, that's not how Vanille sees it. Her thing is avoid, and once she gets out of that hellhole that's the courtroom, she makes her way to the supplies closet, then to the library. She spends some time setting up things, pushing things aside to make room. Once she's finished, and she's met up with the Party Brigade, she makes enough invitations for everyone. She slips them under everyone's doors, or hands them out if she sees someone walking around.

Inside the library, there are candles set up to provide some soft, comforting lighting. There are pots of tea, courtesy of Mercy, pancakes made by Viktor, and books (picked out by Estelle, of course) laid out on the surrounding tables. The others have provided their own touches, and Vanille's even managed to make something: sugar cookies, which are actually very good. They're flavored lightly with all sorts of flavors--not all in the same cookie, okay--and each plate is marked with whatever flavor she's put in them.

After a successful trial, it's healthy to indulge, right? Let's mingle. ]

Instead of living in the castle, she chooses to live among her people as a commoner. In truth, no one knows she's royalty. She's treated the same as everyone else, but the townsfolk love her.

[She looks fondly at the book. It's clear she adores this story.]

That does sound very good of her. I'm afraid princesses are kiiiind of a foreign concept to me, but... we monks are pretty big on equal living.

I believe people should live as equals. The classist system is one I honestly abhor since there's a lot of discrimination based solely on how much money and the lifestyle one has. It's simply not fair.

[Says a princess who had a spoiled upbringing. But she was also restricted in movement and who she could be social with...]

I definitely won't argue. Equality works pretty well at the monastery!

I rather like the idea of equality myself and I'm happy to hear that it works.

Mhm. We don't even have a leader at all, really, everyone works together. People listen to some of the older monks more than the younger ones, but... they're earned that respect, you know?

Yes, I agree. Respect is something that is earned, not something that one should expect simply because of their position.

Exactly. And if hundreds of years of meditation and wisdom isn't grounds for respect, I don't know what is.

Hundreds of years...? Wow. I take it your people must have long life spans.

Pretty much everyone in the monastery does, yeah. I'm the youngest there right now by far.
firstaid: (Eh?)

So in comparison, you really aren't that old.

[Yes, she read all the profiles. Yes, she has them all memorized.]

Nope, not at all. Most of them still treat me like a kid. Which is fair, I guess.

Honestly, that would be frustrating. Most people by the time they're twenty-eight often have a lot of respect from people by then.
