Take Responsibility.

For the third time, those elevator doors at the end of the first-floor corridor open up at the end of the allotted investigation period; the ride down is, as ever, smooth and quick-moving.

You're down by five.

When the doors slide open, the podium circle still stands in stark contrast to that now-familiar black void of a courtroom, and once again, it's changed to reflect your losses – Caren and Mion have joined those with podiums draped in black, their framed greyscale profile portraits staring out at the rest of you.

(The portrait of Pearl hasn't been removed from her room, but it seems the Kingmaker has replaced it with another; either way, her photograph is in the courtroom along with the rest.)

As before, the Kingmaker waits until everyone is settled at their podiums before he speaks; he still isn't visible, but he can clearly be heard, his voice coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.

"Capable has been taken from you. I'll confirm one thing for you so no one will waste time asking – the killer wasn't me. Looks like the guilty decided to take a shot at Rule Seven after all – and whether they succeed or not is up to you."

Twenty-two Survivors remain. We'll see how many the group has lost at the end of the day.

Even if I was trying to make this look like a suicide, the thigh wouldn't be my first choice for a single wound. Unless you're aiming in the right spot, she wouldn't bleed out quickly.

...Except if I was sure I knew what I was doing.

Golly gee, is that so...

[Not right now, Misa.]

It's natural to go for places with a greater margin of error if you're inexperienced. Unless you're just really good at your anatomy classes, I doubt you'd even be able to locate the femoral artery.

Well, they knocked her out first, right? Since her head was wounded, after all. I don't get why they went for the thigh to begin with...

The bump on her head wasn't enough to kill her, so they had to go by some other method. The thigh probably seemed like a less likely place for us to notice...

But they could have just hung her. Unless they were worried it might take too long?

If Misa-Misa was strapped for time and needed to kill someone she knocked out, and she had a sword, she wouldn't go for the thigh. Just saying.

Miss Misa, you don't have any experience with killing people, so it's natural you'd go for the neck or maybe the heart. But if you want to get someone to lose a lot of blood very quickly, and you're confident you can find it, an artery isn't a bad way to go.

...Are we sure it was intentional?

[While we're all talking about murder and how good we are or aren't at it.]

Perhaps someone was trying to subdue her and not kill her. Hit something wrong. Panicked. Maybe?

Then they're obscenely unlucky.

But in that case, why would they need both the blow to the head and the stab wound? Just the head injury should be enough.

Well...was she knocked out before or after she was stabbed? Before she died, obviously, but...

People tend to move while people are trying to stab them, and since it was a clean wound and there was no sign of restraints I'd say that she was unconscious for the stabbing.

I see...but if I chose that, then everyone would know I was someone who knew what they were doing. Which is a little incriminating in and of itself, right?

[personal profile] cherryblooded 2016-03-19 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So it would be. There aren't many people like that here.

No kidding. The killer probably knew that, too, though. But decided whatever risk that would be was worth it? I mean, you wouldn't be able to tell an identity from a normal stab, or at least, you wouldn't be able to narrow down your list of suspects much! At least, I don't think. Misa-Misa is no good with like forensics...

No, not really. Even knowing that, we haven't managed to get much of a lead, so so far the risk is working out for them.

[Doesn't he hate it.]

There must be something else we're missing, then. ...We'll keep looking.
