Take Responsibility.

For the third time, those elevator doors at the end of the first-floor corridor open up at the end of the allotted investigation period; the ride down is, as ever, smooth and quick-moving.

You're down by five.

When the doors slide open, the podium circle still stands in stark contrast to that now-familiar black void of a courtroom, and once again, it's changed to reflect your losses – Caren and Mion have joined those with podiums draped in black, their framed greyscale profile portraits staring out at the rest of you.

(The portrait of Pearl hasn't been removed from her room, but it seems the Kingmaker has replaced it with another; either way, her photograph is in the courtroom along with the rest.)

As before, the Kingmaker waits until everyone is settled at their podiums before he speaks; he still isn't visible, but he can clearly be heard, his voice coming from everywhere and nowhere all at once.

"Capable has been taken from you. I'll confirm one thing for you so no one will waste time asking – the killer wasn't me. Looks like the guilty decided to take a shot at Rule Seven after all – and whether they succeed or not is up to you."

Twenty-two Survivors remain. We'll see how many the group has lost at the end of the day.

I dunno, you'd have to ask him.

But that'd be pretty dumb if it was, because I know for a fact you can't burn metal. It'd melt it pretty well though, but if I were the killer I would've started the machine up first and then killed the person so it'd be ready.

Maybe it wasn't a planned murder.

Maybe the sword was just for self-defense in case they got attacked or something, and the culprit changed their mind at some point, choosing to kill Sonozaki-san.

[Because one doesn't just carry a sword for no reason at all]

Hey, detective! You and Lynne were trying to keep track of all the weapons here, right? You wouldn't happen to know if somebody had a sword, would you?

We have a few lists and I can't say we ever got an update, but let me think...

[Mouri hazily remembers the content of those lists, there's something that jumps to him]

Bruce-san had two bamboo swords, those are made specially for training. Other than that, I don't remember seeing swords in any of the lists provided.

..... I hate to break it to ya, but I think you should probably give up on the weapons list thing...

[ It seems remarkably ineffective... he's sorry, but really. ]

Probably.

Yato, while I can't say whether you have one, isn't your usual weapon a sword?

Yep, no two ways about that! My cute Yukine turns into a pair of hiltless swords. They're really beautiful too, on a whole other level than anything the Kingmaker could come up with.

I'm sure they are.

[Incidentally, does Yato have pockets on anything he's wearing right now?]

Who can say. I mean, I won't say it's planned just in case it's not, but it could still be. That rope's a pretty nice knot if even it's totally useless.

[maybe everyone can give a shot at tying knots like that to see who matches it]
goodforsomething: (⛵ give this man an oscar)

Might've been smarter to toss it in and not turn it on. Not like anybody would go pokin' around in there for no reason.
captainobnoxious: (16 what have we here)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-19 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but then they've got this to deal with. Why not just get rid of something while you could?

[don't give murderers any ideas, sigrun]

Unless they have a guilty conscience, I guess.

It doesn't have to burn if we don't notice right away- once the trial starts it won't matter if it's gone or not. It's just has to be good enough of a hiding place.
captainobnoxious: (10 let's see.)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-19 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
We've got some good snoops here, that's all. I'd just take care of anything I could, but maybe they just didn't have the time for it.
garudynamic: (Serious face)

[personal profile] garudynamic 2016-03-19 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they didn't start the washing machine either. Not that that much blood would wash out- but it would ruin some evidence at least.

I think either they ran out of time or didn't know how to use the machines, personally.
sleepingkogoro: (this cant be right)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-19 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Weren't there instructions about how to use those machines? I think there were.

[He never really paid attention to that]
garudynamic: (Listening)

[personal profile] garudynamic 2016-03-19 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think so, but someone in a rush might not have remembered. Or cared. But it's just as likely they just ran out of time and intended to come back and turn everything on after they were done cleaning.
isafraid: (Hat trick)

[personal profile] isafraid 2016-03-19 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's not, then someone using them can only be so lucky.

[He would know.]

goodforsomething: (⛵ let's think about this)

[personal profile] goodforsomething 2016-03-19 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
They tossed that blanket in the washer and didn't turn it on, right? If they had the time, it would've been better to wash it for real - or burn it.
prismbloom: (black garden)

[personal profile] prismbloom 2016-03-19 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sigrun did say the incinerator took too long to start--the culprit may have known that, too.
goodforsomething: (⛵ grumpkle)

[personal profile] goodforsomething 2016-03-19 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So they didn't have time to take care of everything, probably. Not too surprising - it must've taken a while to get her up there like that.
prismbloom: (missing you)

[personal profile] prismbloom 2016-03-19 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Or, since the blanket Yosuke found was covered in fresh blood, and the evidence of the card game in the game room wasn't taken care of, they may have thought they were running out of time. They either got flustered or knew they would be found when we all woke up.
