it's the ultimate showdown (of ultimate destiny)
Thursday.
The day that'd been so longingly awaited since the meeting on Monday by both combatants.
The tables in the dining hall have been pushed to the walls for seating, everyone's had a paper shoved beneath their door alerting to them to the evening event, and anyone who had any business there suddenly does not. Seriously, those papers are like littered everywhere, unless you're not coming there's no way you didn't know there was something tonight.
On one side of the room is Sigrun with her weapon of choice: a pike she got from the vending machine a little bit ago, practicing her handling of it with a grace that remarks upon her life of combat experience, a quiet seriousness to her that's rarely seen. Her focus is on the opponent on the other side, twenty or so feet away, the clinking gears ever rolling.
Colress and Klinklang are also concentrated on what's about to go down, the man talking quietly to his Pokémon, all too ready to show the strength of the creature off to Sigrun. They'd been becoming reused to each other, Colress learning just what his frankly new friend (at least in evolution) could do, since that challenge put forth by the woman, and it's with confidence that the three now face each other, the air heavy with anticipation.
Let's fight.

[Colress is actually really impressed that she managed to dodge that so well, too. He can tell things are getting very heated now.
After the first attack, the minigear returns to the rest of its body, but Colress is happy to keep up the offensive, much like when Sigrun went on hers. They still have the distance, so a long-ranged attack like this is perfect.]

[With its gears speeding up their rotation, Klinklang fires another Gear Grind right toward Sigrun, intending to speed up the rate of fire when it returns.]

But it's not like she can dodge all the time, especially as they start to quicken and she's forced to start knocking it away with the hard wood of the pike instead. Which would be just plain dangerous if she didn't have her gloves on, but they're not going to stand the abuse for long either and Sigrun's forced to think of something new:
She's going to run right into one, fuck if it grazes her or not, and stab the pike right between the red gear's teeth and Klinklang's spiny rim from the top to try and stop its movements for even a second.]

Colress is stunned for a second as this goes down. He did not expect her to take such a risk, and he hopes Klinklang has been holding back like he asked, because one wrong hit from that could really hurt her.
In both Colress' and Klinklang's moment of surprise, they don't realize what Sigrun is really doing. With the pike shoved down like that, Klinklang can't move away from Sigrun.]
Ah-! Try to fight her off, Klinklang!
[But all Klinklang can really do is shuffle awkwardly around its rim. It's trapped for now.
But Sigrun had better watch out for that minigear that's coming back...]

when the minigear returns and earns a point right at her shoulder, causing her to move the pike wrong and snap the hard wood wrong against the metal Pokémon instead of being able to use it as leverage, effectively leaving her without a weapon.
Her "oh crap" face says all.]

And that's when the minigear does its damage, sending the rest of its body spinning downward from being suddenly freed from the pike. The minigear joins its body eventually, but it's quickly looking toward Sigrun, confused and a little concerned if she's alright.
Colress is likewise concerned. Stunned, but concerned.]
Ah...
[She's unarmed. What now?]
Miss Sigrun, do you intend to continue without a weapon?

But uh. Your friend here's a little too finger nippy for my taste.
[Just. Gears tend to be that way in general, and she picks up what's left of her pike with a frown.]
So... nope. You won fair and square.
[But she doesn't seem unhappy by the results, rubbing her shoulder with a widening grin.]
Well! Well, well, well, looks like your little friend here really packs a punch! And you're not so bad a commander, Colress, I'm impressed by the way you two work together so well. I've got nothing to worry about now.
[Grats you passed the test. Wits are always welcome beside pure brawn, Sigrun knows this as well as any leader does, and Colress has proved himself capable of having pretty sharp ones in her book.]

Still, while he figured Klinklang might have the upper hand in this battle, he's thoroughly impressed by how well Sigrun held out against it. He has certainly learned something about physical determination in humans today.
So as he approaches, he smiles and holds out a hand.]
Thank you, Miss Sigrun. For the opportunity, and for the kind words. You truly are a marvel, I'll tell you that.
[While he finds her bluntness and nonchalance off-putting at times, he's glad to have gotten to see how serious she can be. Sigrun said she has nothing to worry about, and Colress feels the same about her. She's definitely a captain for a reason.
But while he's thinking about that, Klinklang butts in with a few words for Sigrun as well. It's...all whirring and humming noises, but it sounds excited? That is the vibe Colress is getting.]
Ah, I believe Klinklang wishes to congratulate you as well. I'm sure it was a bit nervous to face you at first, but you held your own just fine.

'Course! There's no need to worry about me, I've faced more things that wanted to kill me than anyone else here, I'm sure. A little battle with you two is nothing.
[In terms of survivability, that is.]
I'll get a stronger weapon next time and then we'll go at it again! I really, really really really want to beat your pile of gears here, you know, I won't stand to be defeated again.
[But it's much like training her rookies back home, for her, she does her best not to let them win and when they do she can only be proud of them. And then if they get too cocky she whoops their ass.]
Actually, say, if you get any more of your little friends here, I'll totally take them on again! And I'll win even if they're a bunch of metal!

[Klinklang bobs its minigear up and down in what appears to be a nod of sorts. While it was a strange battle, facing off against a human and all, it was a battle. And that at least gives a sense of normalcy for it and its trainer.]
Well! Since Klinklang is here, I am hopeful that there is at least one more trapped in the vending machine for someone to come across.
[His smile shifts into a playful smirk for a second.]
And yes, it would be more metal for you to go up against. I'll be eager to see how you get around it next time.
