For the latter scenario, we'd just have to make sure we have as much non-perishable foods and clean water as we can carry and then hope there's some place we can take refuge in until we can either sustain ourselves with the local wildlife or with leftover seeds from various fruits and vegetables we might've kept for that purpose.
In the former scenario, we'd just try have to seal it back up somehow, apologize to the maker for misunderstanding his intentions, and live our lives in a community built upon mutual trust and the knowledge that any weird rules are better than the desolation and inevitable death that awaits us out there.
