WEEK 1 As much as this sounds like a bad joke all around, it looks like one thing is being played completely straight: you're not going anywhere. After the Kingmaker has answered your questions (or, well, perhaps it's more accurate to say he didn't answer them, at least as far as most of those little Q&A sessions went), you'll be left up to your own devices – feel free to continue exploring and getting to know your fellow Survivors for the next several days. Should you want to eat something you're free to use the kitchen before 10PM, but after that the doors will be locked and no amount of fussing with the locks or trying to break them down will get them to budge. And no, the robot cannot punch them in for you. Notably, though, starting bright and early on Monday morning (or maybe just early, since there aren't any windows) you'll be treated to the most unholy damn noise – it's very definitely an electric siren of some sort, probably some kind of klaxon, blaring out over the PA system. It only blasts once, but really, for something that loud, once is enough. This will happen every morning at 7AM and again in the evenings at 10PM. You'll be able to hear it no matter what room you're in. There isn't any punishment for sleeping through it, but you don't want to waste the day in bed, now do you? (Unless you were out exploring all last night. In which case, go back to bed, damn.) SURVIVORS REMAINING: 27

Seriously? Every house should have one! They're like- [she twists up the towel to make a vaguely cylindrical shape.] this long and they light stuff up. So you can see in the dark without turning on a lamp.

Huh. Why not just use a lantern? Or magic? Or a blastia?

Because magic isn't real. [she sounds so dejected. thanks, black.] Lanterns are pretty old school too.

What are you talking about? Magic is totally real. I don't use it, but plenty of people do.

So uh, yeah? Your world's got flashlights and batteries or whatever and mine has blastia and magic. So...

If we accept that multiple worlds are real then it means he could be right about them ending too! I'd rather he be wrong about everything.

Hey, listen. Just 'cause he's right about one thing doesn't mean he's right about everything. We've got proof we're from different worlds, right? Our memories and experiences are that proof of that. But we don't have any proof that our worlds are destroyed. So don't worry so much.

[Meeting someone even more lackadaisical than herself is a trip. But... it brightens her mood as well. She looks down for a second long before she seems to accept his logic completely.]

You're right! He hasn't offered us any real proof or anything. Thanks!

See? There's no reason to trust his word just 'cause he was right about one thing.

Yup. There were loads of times my teachers were wrong about something but that doesn't mean everything else was wrong too. [No Lynne, you were just a bad student they were probably correct.]

[He catches it easily and gets to work. He's surprisingly careful about it.]

Oh, you actually went to school? Is that a normal thing where you're from?

Of course, everyone has to go. You didn't?

[What is going on in your world, Zagi...?]

Nope. I had lessons and stuff, but it wasn't the same. Kids in the Empire go to school, I'm pretty sure. But if you're in the guilds you're trained to do stuff and do it well, so schooling's kind of a luxury.

[Uh. It's hard to wrap her head around all this different stuff.]

So, you were part of one of the guilds then? What kinds of things can you do?

[blastiarm]

Yep. I can do a lot of stuff, I jumped from guild to guild for awhile. So I've got a bunch of random skills. I'm pretty good with directions and mapmaking stuff, I know a lot about fighting and pinpointing monsters' weaknesses... but now I mostly just do bodyguard work.

[...Actually it's assassinations, but uh. That's not something he should say, so!]

That's pretty useful! It's kind of reassuring knowing there's someone around here that can protect us from anyone if they go nuts. Or could beat up the kingmaker for us.

[Lynne. Lynne, no. Don't trust Zagi with anything.]

You don't have to worry about either of those. I'm the best there is.
