WEEK 3 Another week has passed; two more Survivors are gone. Pearl and Caren both had someone to fight for, someone worth killing for; perhaps it's for the best to hope that somehow they've found peace despite not being able to collect on the Kingmaker's incentive. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. That doesn't mean the night passed easily, though - it seems another piece of your personal puzzle may have fallen into place while you slept... Following that spiral staircase up to the second floor will reveal something strange; those stairs definitely lead far higher than you remember, up to a previously inaccessible third floor. [Well, by the time Mettaton finds Bruce after seeing that notice taped up, he...well, he seems very, very amused, let's put it that way.]

You can eat that steak you got, you know.

[Having been lying down on the bed, Bruce instantly sits up at the sound of Mettaton's voice, and it takes a moment for him to register what the other is saying.]

Ah. [The steak... yes.] I don't tend to eat meat unless I have to, and it did look rather well-made, so...

[Well made as in the steak was literally modeled well... if that made sense.]

Oh, there's no meat in it! We don't eat meat in the underground, either. Just as a basic way of life.

Well, that and there's no livestock. But the point is that it's all magic, baby, you don't have to worry about a thing.

The meat is made of magic?

[...Bruce needs a moment to compute this, hang on.]

How do you make it... [Just sort of... gestures here kind of helplessly. Even Bruce isn't entirely sure how to phrase what he wants to ask in proper words.] Solid? Digestible?

It's not! Technically, anyway - but not because it's inedible, but because there's no need to digest it in the first place.

[...He has had this conversation a few times in this Vault, and by god, he's gonna have it again.]

The way that human food is processed is so inefficient! Ours is a lot simpler - it doesn't convert into sugars or anything, it just turns directly and completely into energy, as soon as it's eaten.

It's also good for healing injuries if needed. So there's that, too.

[Well at least now that Bruce knows he's not going to ask it again... although...]

It's just a difference in biology, I suppose. [He returns with a wry smile. Thinking about it, back that one night when Mettaton was talking about his 'soul'... he can sort of have a better picture now. Since the beings where Mettaton comes from were made of magic and not physical matter, it makes more sense that their food would be the same way.

If it wasn't for this entire situation they were in now, Bruce would have really liked to be able to study this more.]

--healing injuries? [It finally sinks to him after a bit. Was the energy - or magic - in this food that strong?]

Some, yes! We aren't good with illnesses and things like that, but injuries are fixable for most people.

If something happens to my body, it's not as simple as that, but...minor injuries on most monsters are pretty easy.

[amygdalae]

[That was... interesting. If the chance ever presented itself in the right time and manner maybe he could try something with that, but for now its just an idea tucked at the corner of his mind. This situation didn't call the time for his curiosity.]

Are you the only one with a body like this? [Since Mettaton did mention the differences a few times by now, and Bruce can't help but wonder. If all monsters were like how Mettaton described, then why did he choose to inhabit a robot's chassis instead?]

[Well, he doesn't seem to mind the question, at least.]

I am! My cousins have something similar going on, but my personal situation is entirely unique - it's what got my creator so much attention from King Asgore. Why do you ask, darling?

[Bruce gives a small shake of his head here.]

Nothing - I was mostly just wondering, since you had mentioned several times how different your body is from the others back where you come from.

[Though its nice to get some actual confirmation this time.]

I don't mind answering questions if you've got them, sweetheart, you know that.

[And he genuinely doesn't; even without the shameless attention whoring, he's kind of accepted that he's the resident oddity.]

Oh, don't worry about that! I'm used to interviews, and it's not as though celebrities get to have many secrets, anyway. I don't mind it at all.

[This really isn't anything like an interview, Mettaton, but whatever... floats your boat?? More or less??]

All the same, I just want to let you know there's always a choice to let me know. I don't want to force anything on you.

Well, it's not like I embarrass easily or find it all that awkward, either. So there's that.

I assume that's one of the requirements of being a celebrity anywhere in general.

You've got it, sweetheart! It's not for the faint of heart, that's for sure.

No, it certainly isn't.

[Bruce sees enough of celebrity gossip back in is world to understand enough.]

But I am glad you're thriving well on your own end.
