WEEK 4 And as the third week in the Vault comes to a close and the fourth week begins, the Survivors are once again down by two. Mion Sonozaki died on her own terms, and Yato died fulfilling his duty as God of Fortune in the best way that he knew how; the shrine built in the game room on Saturday stands in their memory. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible fourth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; even if the Kingmaker sounded a bit unhappy with you last weekend, the fact remains that you're still doing what you seem to have been brought here to do. [Having a bar open up after the last trial has been a small blessing. It's probably not the best thing to be drawn to drinking your problems away, but that's what they're dealing with.

That being said, someone clearly had a worse dream than him last night.]

[...Tarrlok sort of rubs a finger along the rim of his glass a little noncommittally, because fuuuuck feelings and talking about them.]

...I didn't sleep very well, that's all.

...That's starting to be a common occurrence Saturday night, isn't it?

[For once, he's not going to press. He likes Tarrlok too much to do that.]

It's practically like clockwork at this point.

It's nice to be able to live by a schedule, isn't it.

I think most of us agree at this point that it's pretty damn inconvenient.

If these are all memories that we're havin', how the hell did we forget them in the first place?

Ah, but we know exactly when we're going to stumble upon a corpse, so I guess we can... expect four for four, I guess.

I'm going to assume it was something the Kingmaker did, because as we all know he can do anything as long as it's completely awful.

Maybe the day is cursed.

He does seem to be some kinda scientist. I wouldn't be surprised if he did it for kicks.

I guess we'll see what happens this week. Maybe no one will die!

What other reason for any of this would there even be? He's obviously... I don't know, annoyed that we aren't being exciting enough in this very moment.

He didn't sound too happy during the trial, did he?

Probably thought there wasn't enough senseless violence.

...You know, I feel like there have been a few situations where he hasn't sounded as thrilled as I would've thought he'd be. I'm kind of wondering what that even means at this point.

It's gotta mean something. I just don't think we'll be gettin' a clear answer. Not from him at any rate.

...You know... sometimes when people go on power trips, they get a little out of their depth, I think. What if he really does need someone to die every week?

How do you mean?

Well, we still don't know what that thing in the pit is, do we? Maybe he's made a deal with something he probably shouldn't have.

Back home, some spirits can have some pretty... interesting terms for dealing with them.

....spirits, huh.

I suppose that would explain the shape-shiftin', and the fact that it doesn't seem to feel pain.

It would, wouldn't it? I don't necessarily want to put all my eggs in that basket, but it seems like the most likely explanation to me.

If this is a spirit, it's gonna make goin' after the thing difficult.

Are they tangible in your world?

...Kind of? Occasionally? Usually it's better to figure out how to placate them, to be honest.

[notjustawriter]

I wonder how the hell we're supposed to do that. Whatever that thing is, it seems to like killin' people.

It also likes irony, I think? But yes, other than that, I don't really know what we'd do with the thing. It's not like we can invite it for a chat and some tea, after all.

No, I suppose not.

...of course, I think the more pressing question is would we want to.

I hope no one's crazy enough to try to talk sense into a spirit that wants to kill all of us.
