Week 4.

WEEK 4 And as the third week in the Vault comes to a close and the fourth week begins, the Survivors are once again down by two. Mion Sonozaki died on her own terms, and Yato died fulfilling his duty as God of Fortune in the best way that he knew how; the shrine built in the game room on Saturday stands in their memory. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible fourth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; even if the Kingmaker sounded a bit unhappy with you last weekend, the fact remains that you're still doing what you seem to have been brought here to do. [Gabriel has taken to wandering the halls at night; he can't sleep well during most nights, and it's left him.... well. Restless. Wandering around seems to be about the only thing he can do.

He stops when he sees Bruce examining the profiles.]

Can't sleep either?

[amygdalae]

[Bruce turns over and blinks when he sees who it is, managing a tiny smile at the question.]

More or less. [Its really the norm for him, but that isn't the issue right now.] What about you? Something on your mind?

Ah, nothin' in particular, really. I've just not been sleeping well.

Not for the last week or so.

[He looks up at his own profile curiously.]

Anything starting to look familiar to you?

[amygdalae]

...that makes both of us.

[It's not really that much of a consolation, but its something nonetheless - and maybe a bit of an apology for... everything else in the last week.

Moving on from that, though...

Bruce glances back at his own profile again, pointedly ignoring his photo (since when did he ever smile like that? he doesn't remember) as he places a finger over the part about his own occupation.

Independent Researcher, Consultant and Avenger. All three he didn't even know he had when he first arrived here.]

...I know that the discrepancies in our profiles had been talked about before, but its still been bothering me.

I've been tryin' to make sense of them for a while.

[Schattenjäger. It's so specific, too much to be a coincidence.]

Is anything in particular standing out?

[amygdalae]

...honestly, pretty much everything.

[Bruce by nature is a private person - and though he's well aware SHIELD has his data he's pretty sure they don't exactly go to his likes and dislikes--

Or for that matter, putting 'himself' as a dislike. That's a bit too personal, even for him. Or the fact that somebody even knows about it because nobody certainly did.]

But I guess the biggest point of contention now is just this. [He points again, to his occupation. Or occupations.] I wasn't exactly in an employable state, last I checked.

[As much as he wants to press, he doesn't come right out and ask it. Time to figure out how the hell to even approach this line of questioning.]

You seem pretty put-together to me. What do you mean?

[amygdalae]

[...really Bruce knows he could beat around the bush, but considering everything that's happened and how much he owes everyone here in general, well.

He can... give something back in return, at the very least.]

I was... I had certain people after me. People who could easily make my life incredibly difficult.

[Well, they already did, but that isn't the issue here.]

I couldn't exactly stick around anywhere for long, much less be actually employed.

I see.

[So he was on the run. Fair enough.

...It sounds like this group of people all have their secrets, doesn't it?]

...but I take it your profile disagrees with that. Like how it has that second job listed on mine.

[amygdalae]

If I don't take all the dreams into account... [He trails off, sighing and then taps his finger against the glass that covers their profiles. He really doesn't want to believe they're real, but as the weeks pass and after what Sigrun said a while back, its bothering him now more than ever.

Especially considering what his latest 'realistic dreams' were featuring.

He glances specifically again at the 'Avenger (?)' part of his occupation and makes a bit of a face.]

I'm still not fully convinced any of this here is true, but what reason would the Kingmaker have in making any of our information up?

I'm not sure what his motivations are, exactly, but I don't know if he's the sort to lie so blatantly.

It's hard to get any information out of him at all, lie or truth.

[....]

But who the hell did he get this all from?

[amygdalae]

One of the many questions I wish we had answers to.

[If Bruce frustrated? Most certainly. But he doesn't really show it beyond another sigh.]

All of us were unconscious when we arrived here, and we don't even know how long we had been out for because of all the discrepancies. Anything could have happened between back in our worlds and waking up here.

Right.

And there's that.... dream, memory... whatever it was we all had before wakin' up here. That's still gotta be connected to all of this, dontcha think?

I don't know if that was a mass hallucination or an actual memory we all share.

[amygdalae]

At this point it'd be foolish to not think it has a relation to us being here.

[Though how that even plays into anything, Bruce isn't sure. But he sure would like to know as well...]

It's always been a few weeks and we're just as lost in the dark as we had been on day one. [And that is just. So very frustrating.]

Have you tried lookin' around for anything unusual?

I still think there's something strange about this place, but I haven't had any luck so far.

[amygdalae]

I've been poking around here and there, but nothing concrete has popped up yet.

[Speaking of looking around, however--!]

I might try the stairs later, since Hanamura brought it up last time.

What about the stairs?

[amygdalae]

He mentioned something off about them; I can't recall the specifics off the top of my head, but it doesn't hurt to take a look.

[Especially since they use it every single day; its way too easy to overlook it.]

It's worth a look, innit?

[It's disappointing that Yosuke couldn't have been more specific, but it's a lead.]

[It's hard to be entirely disappointed, something is still something.]

Yeah. [A nod.] I'll give a look into it later and let you know what I find.

Maybe we'll find something. We've been here long enough we should have found something by now.

I certainly hope we will. All of us have been in the dark for long enough at this point.
