Mettaton doesn't really wait for the others to join them; he just leaves back through that section of wall they entered from, calling something back over his shoulder. He swipes the card in whatever looks like a card reader thing - at least he's not Speedwagon and knows what those look like - and then carefully inputs the correct sequence of buttons.
