Mettaton doesn't really wait for the others to join them; he just leaves back through that section of wall they entered from, calling something back over his shoulder. That's part of it, yeah. The other part of it is distance. It's easier to keep you guys hating me - both for me, because I don't want to get attached and for you, because who the hell wants to get close to someone who brought them into a murdergame? So. Best for everyone, really.
