WEEK 4.

WEEK 4 Three more have died this past week. Milla Maxwell was killed for breaking a rule, Chiyuki was murdered, and you all had a hand in executing Yoshikage Kira. It seems like this isn't going to stop any time soon. How many more will join them this week? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Despite the Wordsmith's reaction to the last trial, it seems as though you've been rewarded once again for a job that was...well, it was done, even if he didn't explicitly say it was well-done. Another door has opened in that stairway, it seems, leading you further down into the building; once again, there are more rooms down there, more things to occupy yourselves with. And even stuff you didn't think you wanted, too. I'm a rich kid, remember? Big mansion I never shut up about. Plenty of space for Pokémon. There's a lot of woods around it too, so if you ever wanna escape for a bit there's no end to trees.

[...He doesn't say anything. He's not sure how to respond, really, so he goes back to stuffing his face, instead. His face is telling, though; he's touched, and he doesn't know how to respond to that, so he'd much rather eat his feelings away.]

[His shoulders loosened as Varric breathed out. He wasn't the only one that had considered it. Even Watanuki, his ever present voice of reason, had allowed it to sit in his brain.]

[But he'd also done more than just think about it. Varric clenched his fists, casting a glower in the direction of the phone. As if that were to blame.]

I called him. Asked him if the motives could be combined. If I could rid that thing that killed her from existence, and then pull her out...

I thought about it. For a second, hell, more than a second, I was willing to give up you, the girls, all of it.

[... Yeah, okay, objectively speaking he has kind of a cute best friend, even if that was born from a life of loneliness. Gold's really feeling strongly about never letting him be that way again.]

More importantly, you'll never go a day without DJ Mary in your life again! Oh man, I've got her whole discography, we'll stay up all night listenin' to it!

First thing's first, you need to get used to how it feels. Just practice pulling back on the bow string for right now.

You mean that's not your name? [His response was quick and delivered with an almost impish grin.] But no, I can find something else. Can't guarantee it won't be more miserable than the first, but that's the risk we take.

[With no plans to go anywhere in the immediate future, Varric lowered himself to the ground, facing the younger man with that stupid smile still plastered on his lips.]

Yeah, he likes that drink I gave you before. Sake, remember? But I bet he would try other things.

But let's at least wait until after dinner.

You don't have to sit on the floor, you know. You can bring a chair over from the dining room.

[Mugetsu nods his head vigorously. Yep, he's a fox! And he seems proud of that too.]

He's a 'kudakitsune'- a pipefox. But he can get bigger, he changes into something about this big-

[He holds up his hand about waist-high on himself.]

-with for legs and nine tails, so he looks more fox-like.

He can, he has another form that looks more like you would expect a fox to look. With legs and nine tails and stuff. But there's no way to change him back to this form here, so it wouldn't make sense for him to change. He would be way too big in a small space.

[Even though it stings a little, Watanuki nods. No judgement here, he understands the temptation.]

Remember my boss, Yuuko? I haven't told anyone yet, but she's really powerful. Really, really, really powerful. She can do anything she wants. You know how, in some places, people worship gods as creators or all-powerful beings? She makes gods.

[That might have been a metaphor, Watanuki doesn't know that she was actually making real gods that one time, but a little fib wouldn't be terrible here. He's trying to get Varric to not do something, and he would never be able to find out that this might not be 100% true anyway.]

But even she, in all her power, can't bring someone back from the dead. So that's why I decided not to listen to the Wordsmith. In order for him to be able to bring someone back from the dead, he would have to be stronger than someone who can make gods. Which I doubt he is.

Usually, as long as I'm not in danger.

[Mugetsu will show how he does that too: he dives down the front of Watanuki's vest, nestling into a spot somewhere between that vest and shirt. See? He's hidden!]

He can get a little protective though.

[Mugetsu makes an irritated chattering noise and boofs Orihime on the nose with his tail. She's got it all wrong, Mugetsu is the one who owns Watanuki.

Watanuki, however, just laughs and holds his hand back out for Mugetsu to come back to him.]

I guess he doesn't like the thought of being owned.

I mean, I probably wouldn't consider this to be that weird if it wasn't for. You know. Everything else about this place.

What makes her special? [ He tilts his head, intrigued. Talking about weapons was something he enjoyed, especially in the absence of them here.]

[the sad part is the nine tails is how he'd expect a fox to look and nick is a disappointment]

So he gets pretty huge, huh. Ninetales is only about the size of Polibo on average, which ain't that big I guess, but those tails are long on it. And cursed.

The guy who first tried making her couldn't get her right. Either she wouldn't fire, wouldn't aim properly, that sort of thing. Eventually though, yours truly took the blueprints to one of the smartest dwarves out there.

[And then comes a sad sort of sigh.] I don't know where she is, but she's probably missing me.

You're no fun. I bet he wants to drink now. [He looked to the creature.] Don't you, little guy?

International TV, actually. He skated well, but he got way into his performance and I'm pretty sure he started crying.

[ Poor Anya... ]

[Varric wanted to argue, that impossibilities across the universes were possibilities elsewhere. If he'd learned anything from this endeavor, it was that. Hell, where he was from, having electrical lighting was an unheard of thing. Dragons were impossible in Phi's world.]

[Maybe Yuuko couldn't do something in her world, but why couldn't the Wordsmith in his?]

[But he'd already resigned himself to... not defeat, because giving into this was hardly that negative. Not sacrificing his friends, having that resolve...]

[If anything, he was defeated at his own thoughts.]

You're right. I know you're right. [It didn't make him feel any better though. He certainly didn't look any better.]

I guess it might not be entirely right to say that... if anything did happen between those times I don't know about it.

My team was locked in the shelter's manufacturing room - don't ask why a bomb shelter has room for making robots, I don't know - and we nearly blew ourselves up trying to get the door open on account of there being a bomb in there too.
