WEEK 4.

WEEK 4 Three more have died this past week. Milla Maxwell was killed for breaking a rule, Chiyuki was murdered, and you all had a hand in executing Yoshikage Kira. It seems like this isn't going to stop any time soon. How many more will join them this week? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Despite the Wordsmith's reaction to the last trial, it seems as though you've been rewarded once again for a job that was...well, it was done, even if he didn't explicitly say it was well-done. Another door has opened in that stairway, it seems, leading you further down into the building; once again, there are more rooms down there, more things to occupy yourselves with. [...That's a little unusual, but Lusamine does follow the instructions. She doesn't quite throw the knife yet, though, staring.]

[Just. Let her mimic the pose really quick while shaking her head. Spears are so stupid, it's official now, jesus christ.]

[The dwarf fixed an apologetic look on the sentient piece of lint. He'd have to try and get the thing alone, away from the positive influence that Goldie appeared to be on him.]

What's for dinner then, kid?

Well, at least she has good company then. I'm sure they'll keep each other company. Bianca's a real charmer, you know? Picked up a few storytelling pointers from yours truly.

[Varric simply nodded at the demon, without so much as looking up.]

Sure thing, kid. [Spoken like the dismissive little ass that he is. In all actuality, he probably hadn't even heard Killia correct him, caught up as he was admiring his handiwork.]

Oh, did I interrupt? [That hits her after a few more seconds.] Forgive me. I can stay to one side until you are finished.

[Varric ignored his first statement. It wasn't that he didn't agree -- he did, perhaps more than Watanuki realized. In fact, it was for that reason that he didn't speak up: he'd already agreed with the man. There was nothing more to be said that hadn't been said already.]

[It helped, of course, that the offer Watanuki made proved to be an effective distraction. The man had spoken about spirits before, being able to commune with them and some such. He wasn't sure it would work, however. There was no guaranteeing the fact that Hawke was truly dead -- she could have just as easily been locked in an eternal duel with the nightmare. If she was it was just as possible that her soul was trapped in the fade.]

[Barring all that, could a stranger really reach out to a soul from worlds away?]

[ Small sigh.]

[Varric moved in a circle around her, observing her stance quietly. Occasionally, he reached out, using a calloused hand or rough finger to push her form in the right direction. He straightened her back and tucked in an arm, then stepped back and nodded.]

Good. Now loosen up and try it again.

[firstaid]

[She hunches a bit at that scowl, retreating a bit.]

W-well, if it meant that you, or Mikazuki, or Hanyuu, or someone else gets to live... I-I would be okay with it. It scares me to think that maybe someone I've gotten close to might die.

You're sure she's not a crossbow spirit?

Probably one of the most amazing women from where I'm from. [He cracked the book open, pointing to one of the paintings of her. The inscription read Marian Hawke. Then he flipped to the page he'd opened to before, and pressed a finger to his own painting.]

And her faithful sidekick, of course.

Positive. Just a regular, hand-crafted crossbow. [Cue some grinning -- he'd missed playing this game.]

So, if the end of your spear is here, [points again, like he's miming pressing his finger against the tip of the spear] and this is the length of my sword...

[He holds it out so she can see just how far away he is. The tip of his sword isn't close enough to touch her.]

It's very difficult for me to land a hit on you from the front. But! If I can dodge around you like this...

[Which he does, easily. He's now on her left side and he brings the sword up until the side is pressed against her waist.]

And you can't turn quickly enough to block. The same can be done from the back, of course.

[He backs up once he's done with that.]

It's simple enough, but not easy to pull off in combat.

It's certainly an impressive beast, isn't it? I've never seen anything like it! Dark Magic certainly doesn't work quite like that.

[...Figure skaters are a lot cooler than he would have given them credit for.]

I got a pair of ice skates. Do you think they were hers?

[ Maybe if he puts it into terms he's more familiar with.]

So she doesn't have an item dungeon?

No one should be punished like that, just for likin' someone that ain't their own kind. Humans would die before a vampire anyway, but can't you turn 'em? And then be with 'em like that.

[She looks down. She honestly doesn't know her fate back home. Maybe she lives, maybe... she dies. Then there's the fact that she's a poison on top of it.]

A friendship bracelet?

[ He'll take that, studying the bracelet for a moment before putting it on his left wrist. ]

Who knows? Ask Viktor if they're his, and if they ain't then they're probably hers. It's not like she can use 'em anymore anyway.

...Unless Viktor has really small feet, I don't think they're his.

I'm holding up alright. I'm a little worried since Mercy was the one who examined the bodies for us, though. I'm not sure what we're going to do when another murder occurs.

[ Not if, when. He isn't optimistic enough to think they're going to stop. ]
