WEEK 7 Oerba Dia Vanille, Phi, and Gangrel have joined the deceased, dropping your number even further. This is the second week that the death toll has risen by three, just by way of murder alone. With well over half of your number deceased, how much longer can this go on? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... As before, it seems that door at the bottom of the stairwell has been unlocked, allowing you to descend even further into the depths of the university; perhaps the new floor holds something promising for you. Or perhaps you'll "christen" this one with another murder. Given the current pattern, that probably wouldn't be a surprise. APPRENTICES REMAINING: 12

I have never known a human who did not have the potential to kill. It's simply not in their nature.

[ she says this, but it has far, far less bitter bite to it than it might've weeks ago. ]

I suppose not. Everyone has a reason to kill, whether it's malice or to protect their own lives.

[matchbreaker]

Or love, boredom, desperation, derangement, hatred, or the will of their Gods.

[ She lists these off on her fingers ]

Or a thousand more reasons, really.

[firstaid]

I suppose that would be true... I... just never saw any reason to kill of my own volition other than to defend myself.

[matchbreaker]

[ She almost, almost said something like "then you've lived a charmed life, haven't you?" ... But she knows that's not the case, given the burdens Estelle confessed the other day.

Elda shakes her head. ]

... If you can say I am no threat, then that argument only works if you have faith in my selfishness.

[firstaid]

I simply have faith in you, Elda.

[She smiles as she cants her head a bit.]

[matchbreaker]

Why?

[firstaid]

Because you have been so kind to me. You trusted me when I was teaching you how to cook, you comforted me when I told you I was a poison in my world. There's no doubt that despite what you say, you're a rather kind person.

[She giggles.]

[matchbreaker]

Those... [ She shakes her head ]

... I cannot deny those actions, but do not think overly much of them. I would have reacted to anyone being so down on themselves as you were the same.

[firstaid]

And it's for that reason that I call you 'kind'. You would have comforted anyone in the same situation.

[matchbreaker]

[ . . Ach! ]
