romance and murder go so well together
[ If the colorful posters from Tuesday weren't enough, Yato has redoubled his efforts for today and slapped these up all over the place:

We are admittedly not entirely sure what the heck the catgirl is there for, but she's there. Anyway, in the dining hall this evening, Aqua and Yato have set things up for a group dinner!! All the food is being put on one table; the rest of the room is for mingling and is colorfully decorated in a way that suggests that Yato went wild in the art room at some point and decided what we all really need in our lives is more color and more glitter!!
There's also this piece of paper with everybody's names on it in pairs, and sets of questions (red tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet). That's right, your mystery game is speed-dating and Yato is here to be your cupid for the evening!! ]

You look pretty awkward, but I'll cheer you right up and make this the best experience you've ever had. Is your family warm and cozy? And do you think you had a good childhood compared to like, anyone ever.

[Well this sure is a bombardment! Colress can't help but mentally recoil for a second before considering those questions.]
I'm afraid I haven't spoken to my family in quite some time, but it's...fine, I suppose? My childhood was likewise fine. It probably does not surprise you, but I was also rather studious in my youth. I was able to foster my curiosity, so I do consider myself fortunate in that regard.

It is hard for anything to be boring when Pokemon is your main field of study. They are endlessly mysterious and equally as fascinating.

[Well that's going to need to be explained, Sigrun.]

[Until they look like actual brains. This is why Mettaton and her are still friends, her monsters are Different.]

[Sometimes he forgets that Mettaton's world is mostly monsters, considering his own humanoid appearance. He does wonder what those monsters are like...]
I would not say Pokemon are brainless, though one key detail is that we cannot directly communicate with them. They understand us, but we cannot fully comprehend their own speech. It is one of the truly lamentable things about our relationship with them.

Why don't you just make a device that lets you talk to them?

Oh, believe me, it is something I have looked into. It is far more complicated to pull off than you would think!

[yes.]
But my world's pretty dead and everyone who knew any high techy stuff like that is dead or Icelandic so I have an excuse.

I've actually been wondering about that. How did that come about? The lack of intellectuals in your area, I mean. Could they simply not adapt to the sudden changes?
[Like...are brawny scientists and tech people just a thing that can't exist? Too much crossing of the streams?]
