We are admittedly not entirely sure what the heck the catgirl is there for, but she's there. Anyway, in the dining hall this evening, Aqua and Yato have set things up for a group dinner!! All the food is being put on one table; the rest of the room is for mingling and is colorfully decorated in a way that suggests that Yato went wild in the art room at some point and decided what we all really need in our lives is more color and more glitter!!

There's also this piece of paper with everybody's names on it in pairs, and sets of questions (red tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet). That's right, your mystery game is speed-dating and Yato is here to be your cupid for the evening!! ]

Oh, well, I already had the basics down. I'd help my mother cook pretty often when I was younger, and... well, when I was just getting started, I wasn't exactly rich enough to go to fancy restaurants every so often and Flamey-Os hadn't exactly been invented yet.

So it's less like learning and more like trying to take an exam on a subject you used to be really good at, but haven't studied at all in years.

... Also, don't tell me Flamey-Os are like little flame shaped pastas in a can.

...you know, I'd be surprised if that didn't exist, but Flamey-Os are these dry pre-cooked noodles that you can put in boiling water instead of making your own noodles. They also come with a packet of seasoning that may actually burn your tongue off if you're not careful. I've never tried them, but apparently university students practically live off them.

You definitely would! People would say that you're accessible to the common folk and all that.

[ ... And oh god, they're instant ramen. ]

... I have important information for you. Which is that the next time you eat a package of Flamey-O's... do you have, like, a type of cheese that's orange-ish and just looks and smells incredibly processed and more plastic-y than food? Toss a slice of that in there. You'll thank me.

That, however... I'm... not sure I ever want to try that, unless it somehow becomes so awful that the universe just doesn't know how to deal with it, so it suddenly becomes perfect.

... You know, now I have to wonder if that's actually how it works? Like one culinary wrong combines with another to just break the scale entirely and loop back around to good again. Anyway! It's good to try new things every once in a while, so give it a chance!

[ He'd ask the Kingmaker for an assist, but he already knows how that conversation is going to go: "American cheese and instant ramen are not a necessity"... And honestly, Yato would have to agree with that... ]

...You know, I don't really have much room to be picky about what I eat when I spent a good portion of my childhood eating pickled fish.

...but then, I stopped eating that as soon as there were actual options.

... I mean, I instantly regretted it... But I ate it.

Why would you do that. Surely there must have been something else that could count as food that wasn't soap?

... No, it was pretty much that I was hungry and it was the only thing there and... soap is made of animal fat, right? It made logical sense at the moment.
