WEEK 5
Three more have joined the deceased this past week. Taichi Yagami was punished for breaking a rule, Megumi Sakura was killed, and Norman Bates... well, the less said about Norman, the better.

A third of you are dead now; your losses are becoming more and more evident with each passing week.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not...

Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible fifth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; you'll probably need the distraction after the last trial.

I see. Had a similar idea, myself.

[Cherryblod's picking out dark blues and light greys and yellows, so not all that different.]

[Stan makes a short sound vaguely resembling a chuckle.]

Not a whole lot else to do, is there.

No. Not really.

[Cherryblod dips his paintbrush in some blue, and starts on his work. After a few moments:]

God, I'm an idiot.

Why's that?

I should have realized weeks ago. I'm old enough to have seen this before - if there's anyone who should have noticed the warning signs before it came close to this point it should have been me.

[He sounds mad. Mostly at himself.]

[Stan just snorts.]

A couple weeks ago he asked me why people were scared of death. If anybody's an idiot, it's me.

I was in the room to hear that - I was just focused on my own problems at the time.

...We're both idiots, I guess. A little.

Guess so. [Stan shakes his head.] I just thought it was one of his things. Always askin' weird questions.

I should've known better. God knows I've had my bad days.

It's not the first time someone I've known has... felt that way.

[It might not be that surprising, given the nature of his profession.]

Nothing to do about it now except make sure it doesn't happen again.

Guess not.

I guess we all know we're gonna have to keep an eye out for Bruce.

He's not going to talk about it, is he. He never does.

[That's agreement right there.]

Nope. Guy's fuckin' stubborn. I tried talkin' to him twenty minutes after the "I'm killin' someone on Friday" announcement and he wouldn't admit to a thing. Could barely get him to accept a compliment.

What are you supposed to do with someone like that...?

[Cherryblod's good at dad-ing, but he can't manage this.]

I was just...tryin' to make him feel like we needed him around. That was the only thing that kept me goin' a lot of nights - knowin' I was the only person that could get Ford home.

We do need him. Not even just because he's our doctor, but because we need more responsible adults around here.

...No offense.

[Stan chuckles.]

Nah, that's pretty much what I said!

[Oh good. The last thing he needs to do is offend Stan and Bruce.]

Didn't believe you, hm.

[Stan shakes his head.]

Like I said, the guy's stubborn. Thinks any of us could pick up where he left off, easy.

That's ridiculous. Don't even know where to begin with that.

[What if their ending party is them and Sigrun and Mettaton and Yosuke??]

Yeah, you don't want me runnin' the show here. Just sayin'.

Not me either. It'd end badly, I'm sure.

[Despite whatever Sigrun thinks.]

[Stan shrugs.] I think you'd do okay, but I ain't gonna argue with ya. Point bein', he's a lot more together than a lot of us. Even with all his issues.

Exactly. He's not expendable. Even though he seems to think so.

[...Ugh. He didn't mean to get paint there, and he frowns at his easel.]

Well, good luck gettin' him to believe it.

[Stan tilts his head thoughtfully at his own painting.]

Seems like most of us have some real shit here.

Maybe that's why we were chosen.

[It's as good a reason as any. What else do they have in common?]
