WEEK 5 Three more have joined the deceased this past week. Taichi Yagami was punished for breaking a rule, Megumi Sakura was killed, and Norman Bates... well, the less said about Norman, the better. A third of you are dead now; your losses are becoming more and more evident with each passing week. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible fifth floor. [Just kind of wondering since Bruce... yeah. He still doesn't even know why he even had things of his in the vending machine in the first place.]

Yeah, I had it on me.

I wear it around my neck all the time. It's supposed to protect the wearer from evil, but I think it has to be my bloodline.

...how does it sense that?

[Magic?? ...Bruce wishes he could be sarcastic about it, but after everything, he can... probably swallow that explanation.]

Werewolves, demons, vampires.

I think it has to do with a certain kind of biblical magic.

[...Bruce isn't too surprised at the 'magic' part. The 'biblical' part is new though.]

As in--from the Bible?

Yeah, that's right.

I'm not the religious sort, not really, but it all seems to come from the same sort of thing: good versus evil, god versus the devil.

[That's interesting and all, but Bruce just kind of needs to clarify one thing...]

...did the events of the Bible actually happen where you come from?

I suppose if it does work on biblical lore, the events had to have taken place...

I'm not the religious sort, but I don't think it's so much that they're literal events as it is holy objects of any kind would work against evil.

It still has to originate from somewhere - you don't just expect things to happen with a random wave of your hand.

What exactly is a... [He trails off and gestures aimlessly here. You can probably guess what he's asking, Gabriel, he's not going to butcher the pronunciation of that.]

[He says it slowly, like he's still getting used to the pronunciation himself.]

Means "shadow hunter" in German. Warriors of the light who hunt down evil. Of the supernatural sort, I mean.

Is that supposed to be your real occupation?

I don't consider it such, no. It's more like something I have to do.

More or less. You could say I didn't have a lot of a choice in the matter.
