Take Responsibility.

And once the allotted time for investigating comes to a close, those elevator doors slide open at the end of the first-floor corridor, offering another of those fast, smooth rides down to that black void of a courtroom

Twelve out of the original twenty-seven are dead; there are four less of you present for this trial than there were last week.

That's incredibly obvious as soon as the doors slide open and the podium circle comes into view where it's encircling that dark pit in the center of the room; Norman, the King, Tarrlok, and Lynne have joined the deceased, photographs in greyscale watching the proceedings from their podiums draped in black.

Of course and as always, the Kingmaker is watching too; he waits until everyone is settled at their podiums to begin speaking, though it's still impossible to tell exactly where his voice is coming from.

"Assured and Perceiving have been taken from you. You guys are really getting excited, aren't you? Two people dead in one night... Whether the guilty party succeeds or not, though, is up to the rest of you."

Fifteen Survivors remain. However many will be down by the end of the day is up to you.

It's a kind of justice.

[Sigrun's willing to stick up for that, anyway. Or at least explain it.]

I've even told her so. It's justice if you're in the right, it's murder if you're in the wrong. Criminals are in the wrong, so someone like Kira would be in the right. I'd guess.

Exactly. There's hundreds of murders every day—it's called war, and as long as you're fighting for something the majority of the population believes in, it's not considered murder. It's doing the right thing.

It's cutting the losses! Changing the world! Since Kira started doing what he does best, the crime rate's dropped tremendously! It's amazing!

It's insane! No one person should ever have that much power over the lives of other people!

I'm sure it has. Anyone'd be terrified to commit a crime in a world where they'd drop dead if they do.

[ ... ... ... ]

That applies here too, Misa. You committed a crime, and you have to take responsibility. I... can't say I didn't consider it either, [ he's grimacing with this, if he could change everything that happened that day he would— ] but you're the one who went through with it.

[ ...one more thing: ] At least you'll get to see your boyfriend again, after your execution. That's more than any of us can say right now.

Misa-Misa's had blood on her hands for a long time. But I don't regret trying here. It was the only way I could know for sure. If I knew I was going to fail, though, I would've went after the killer here. At least then I'd be consistent.

Sorry I couldn't be your Ophelia, though. If it means anything, Misa-Misa failed the last time she tried to be Ophelia, anyway. I'm grateful I did, though. I never would have met Light if I went through with it.

[ ...oh. Oh, that's—oh. ]

I'm glad you didn't go through with it either, Misa. It's been really nice knowing you. [ ... ] I'll still finish what I'm working on and read it in the chapel for you. If there's any place you could hear it from, it'd have to be there.

[ Y'know. Religious reasons. ]

I won't be as good as you, but I'll try. [ ...god this sucks.

This sucks so much, this sucks so much, he's already tearing up. ]

Please do! I'm sure you'll write it amazingly! I want to hear every word, make sure it's super-passionate! The chapel's my favorite room anyway, it'll be perfect!

World leaders do it every day, Yosuke. We do it every time there's a trial. Judges do it too, for better or for worse.

[ Not even getting into the BS that probably happens in HLC either. ]
