do it for love

[ Every week is the same song and dance, but it never really gets easier, or works, or ever seems like it’s going to stop.

There will be time for everyone to rest before Black comes knocking on their doors (a moot point, given the soundproofedness of them) and slipping a note beneath them. He needed the respite too, and they needed to prepare food, and… he still thinks it’s a little weird to have a party after a trial, but he’s starting to really understand why it’s not a bad idea, either. ]

Misa would’ve wanted us to keep a smile on our faces, or at least put a smile somewhere. There’s a pancake bar up in the chapel, if you’d like to come by and make a few happen. If you don't want to come, that's fine, too. The offer's open all night.

[ …the ending is something he’s never quite shaken, unfortunately.

Those that make their way up to the chapel will, indeed, find a pancake bar, courtesy of Yosuke and Stan (because Black never feels that hungry after trials and someone needs to stress bake here). That is, there are pancakes! There are syrups, whipped cream, fruits, berries, candies, etc! Sprinkles! Hot chocolate, ice cream… everything you could want for your build-your-own-pancake masterpiece. It’s all set up on some tables shoved against the chapel’s walls.

…special Stancakes (or pancakes with a hint of Stan in them, aka some of his hair that might’ve gotten in there accidentally, whoops) are also available.

There’s also alcohol—dessert wines mostly, to pair with their overwhelming sugar bias, but there’s some ordinary stuff there too. Pancake bar.

The framed photos are where they’ve always been on the center area, along with their matching stuffed animals. …or most of them; some haven’t been made, some pictures haven’t been put up, you get the idea. ]

[Bruce, as with last week, goes to put up the new portraits that he's taken from downstairs - Norman, King, Lynne and Tarrlok. He's also made a space for Misa, even though she doesn't have her portrait.

...and Bruce hopes they never have a reason to go back down there, but its hard to keep that idea up.

Before he really goes into the gathering though Bruce takes a moment to linger at the King's portrait, a hand resting at the side of the frame as he stares at it for a minute or two before he does eventually move on.

At the party itself Bruce is doing his best to go around and check on people - he won't push if they're not up for conversation, but if they need company then he'll do his best to provide, as far as he's able.]

[After things wind down a bit, and people start drifting back to the rooms, Yosuke approaches Bruce, face set.]

Hey, can I ask you something real quick?

[...Yosuke approaching Bruce surprises him a little, considering he figures that the teenager isn't up for talking, but he quickly gets over said surprise and nods.]

Of course. What is it?

Do you still have the paper scrap?

[He reaches into his pocket for the lighter he got from the vending machine, making his intent clear- it's brittle and likely to fall apart... but he doesn't want to risk it]

[...ah, yes.

Bruce brings out the paper he had taken from Black from a pocket of his jumpsuit, passing it to Yosuke without a wasting a second.]

Here. [...] I think its best if we destroyed them for good.

Yeah. I'll sleep better once it's gone.

[And he wastes no time lighting it up, pinching the edge between his fingers until it crumples away. That done he slumps a little in relief]

There. Done.

[Bruce watches in the brief moment where the paper is there and then is not, letting out a breath only after its gone, looking a little relived himself.]

There's that, then.

[He nods]

Sorry to grab you like that- now that we know the Kingmaker will supply stuff like this I couldn't leave it be, you know?

[Not that he thought Bruce would use it. But if they forgot it, eventually it might end up in bad hands]

[Bruce just shakes his head and gives Yosuke a reassuring smile.]

It's fine. It's good to tie up loose ends like this, if at all possible.

[They have one too many of those from all the people dying.]

Hell, if Misa hadn't started freaking out I was gonna pretend to use it against her. Not that I would ever write on it! But... hell maybe it would have scared her into admitting it was... whatever it was.

[Magic? It feels weird to outright say that]

[You're the one who goes into a TV and summons a disco ninja frog, Yosuke. How is this not any weirder.]

...I wouldn't have advised doing that myself, personally.

[But he understands the need for desperate measures... although he's still against it. Desperation actions are what led them to this mess every single week.]

Yeah, but we all kinda do crazy stuff during trials.

[Well, yes, but that isn't the point.]

I know, but just the thought of threatening that... [He trails off, hesitant. He doesn't voice it out but the discomfort is clear on his face.]

[It's a while before Gabriel approaches. He still looks pretty shaken, but it's hard to blame him after weeks of this.]

How... how are you holding up?

[It's been an incredibly hard few weeks. Bruce doesn't blame Gabriel for being so shaken up. He's fairly shaken, himself. Just the fact that Misa could do this...

It's clear just how well the Kingmaker can push them around.]

...managing, all things considered. [Between King, Tarrlok, Lynne and now Misa... all of their losses have affected him, but as much as he wants to he can't dwell on them for too long. Even in here the world still moves on and so must they.] How about you?

I suppose I'm managing.

[Not very well, not after finding one of his friends dead. Not after all the people who have died before.]

We need to up gettin' out of here as a priority. I don't care about what happened in this place anymore. I just want to know how to get the hell out of here.

As do all of us.

[But learning what happened here would provide clues of how to get out... not that Bruce will press that. It's not the right time (nor will it ever be, perhaps).]

There's not much else we can do right now besides continuing to search. What we still need are clues or anything that can remotely help us.

I've been thinking about it, but even if we don't find much, what we don't find might be just as important.

It's possible he's doing something strange to this place. I don't know how-- it doesn't seem like magic really runs this place, but that doesn't mean it's not around.

Floor magically appearing, looking like they've never been touched. It's strange.

It's very strange. There's still a lot we don't know, which is why knowing is all the more important.

I wonder how you prove if magic's involved?

But magic is already unnatural by itself, so if it is a thing, there should be something that point it to us as such.
