Week 9.

WEEK 9
For the first time since your stay in the Vault began, no one died this week. That doesn't mean there weren't casualties among you, however – namely, trust, interpersonal relationships, and comfort in the group dynamic as a whole.

Hopefully no one else pays the price for it.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. You're safe for now – unless your dreams have told you otherwise...

[ He doesn't pause in his playing, but it slows down until it transforms into... snatches of a song instead. It's something Yosuke'd been picking at a couple of weeks back, but he doesn't seem to notice that. Just that it's a nice set of chords. ]

They haven't, no. [ Everything being okay is... debatable; he's at least not shrinking every time someone so much as looks at him, but there's a nervous energy to him and his tone. ] There are still people willing to give me another chance, though I don't know how much I deserve it. It's their's to give though, I guess.

[ ...yeah. ] Did you come to chew me out about my performance, Detective?

[ He—might not be looking forward to hearing everyone's opinions of him, but it's better to get it over with while he's still drinking. ]

...this is no time to chew out anyone, and when it is an appropiate time for that I'm sure I'll have long forgiven it. Unless we are all dead by then.

[Besides Sigrun surely wouldn't allow it. Be assured, though: Black, you definitely aren't in Mouri's favorite people list, at all]

So, there were a couple things I wanted to ask you about, and as you may guess I expect complete honesty about it. By now I'm sure you wouldn't try to hide anything, but a reminder never hurts.

So tell me: did you tell the Kingmaker anything about we trying to find the surveillance room in the second floor? I don't mean last week, I mean before that.

[The week Stan and a few more tried to find it and failed, that is what he means]

[ ...that's so nice, Mouri? Thank you for not deciding to gut him emotionally by affirming his fears that no one trusts him anymore? ... ]

Not until after the fact, no. [ ...but. ] I told him about us meeting in the chapel when we were getting in contact with the others for the first time, and said that if he could stay up to watch then he was welcome to it.

I told him about the ghosts then anyway—and Yato's shipping chart—but I was too tired and out of it to remember to tell him about the surveillance room along with it. Though if he was paying attention, he probably saw what went on anyway.

[ so. that might be his fault? a lot of things might be his fault. ]

[It was never said Mouri was the most emotionally considerate person]

Since the Kingmaker supposedly disappeared days ago you hadn't been able to contact him at all before your trial, right?

[It's the most obvious question he can think. He knows very well by now Black can't get in contact with the Kingmaker, buuuuuuut...if something can be done about that to take advantage of Black's status as a mole and supposing the Kingmaker doesn't know he got caught...but it is pretty much a last resort action. He'd rather Black to not to have contact at all with the Kingmaker]

I didn't try, since I didn't have anything important to report. [ ...anything that the Kingmaker would've considered important or wouldn't have been tuning into in the first place, anyway. ] I considered inviting him to my play, but he wouldn't have come anyway. He didn't go to Misa's masquerade even after I mentioned that he was welcome to.

[ ...Misa thought it would cool if he swung in like the Phantom did, okay. ]

Do you think he is in this place? I don't think he is hidden in some secret room or anything like that. It's true there is a hidden corridor somewhere in the first floor, but I doubt he is in there.

[Has he hinted he is in this place too, Black? For some reason Mouri thinks you know much more than everyone else about the Kingmaker]

[ Hmm. ]

I'm not sure, actually. Sorry, Detective. [ Heh. ] Whether he was here or not never came up. All he's said is that he's always watching.

...I think I'll cut short my questions. This is not really getting anywhere. It is not your fault.

[Sigh. Mouri really expected more definite answers and all. This isn't being as productive as he hoped. Mouri relaxes a bit. He's not going to think Black is blameless in any way, but...yeah, he also feels bad for him]

It must be weird to have to be with Eide-san all the time, eh? I hope she is not being harsh with you.

Sorry I couldn't help more. He never said anything really useful. [ ...that he can share out loud.

And he shakes his head on the next part, running his fingers up and down the piano keys. ]

She's actually been really nice—nicer than she has any right to be to someone like me. [ ...pity party aside! ] Though I, er... I woke up right in her bosom this morning and had to wake her up so she'd let go. She's a bit of a cuddler, I guess.

[ It wasn't the most pleasant experience, but there's bound to be someone out there who's jealous of him. ]

[Yosuke would. Mouri files this under 'stuff Hanamura-kun shouldn't hear about']

You are sleeping on the same bed than her? Couldn't you or her bring the mattress from your bed or something?

[Because it sounds pretty awkward to wake up cuddled by someone else. Or maybe Mouri is jealous because, well, wife has been gone for ten years so it has been ten years without anyone cuddling up to him]

She wants me to be as close as possible just in case, I think. I tried telling her I'd be fine on the floor, but she wouldn't have it.

[ ...and he gave in pretty quick because he can't say no to her. ]

...if anything I suppose she's great at being protective. It is something anyone can be sure she'll do.

[Mouri seems conflicted. Sigrun is his friend. He considers her a friend, but after the trial, well...it didn't give a good impression to him at all. It could be said it greatly damaged the respect he had for her.

Mouri approached Black a bit more and lowered his voice. Sigrun really didn't need to hear this. Mouri wasn't the most sensible person in the Vault, but he didn't want to hurt her...more than the vote in the leader vote thing would, at least]

Black-kun, you were the one she defended. Am I at fault for not trusting her anymore? Because that's what I'm feeling. I...I don't trust her as a leader in many ways now.

No, I don't think you are. Just like how you—and everyone else—are within your rights to not trust me anymore, either. It really isn't any fault of yours that we acted the way we did. [ His voice is just as quiet, piano playing growing softer. ] I mean—I still think Miss Sigrun can be a good leader. Her heart might get the better of her sometimes, but ultimately she wants what's good for the group.

But that doesn't mean everyone has to think that, and I'm sure she'd agreed.

I don't know if anyone else would hold anything against her. I'm pretty sure I'd be the only one who would.

I forgave her for attempting to defend Mettaton-kun because I expected her to never do it again, and I don't doubt if it had been a real trial she would have done the same. That terrifies me. It is extremely unlikely, but if somehow the Kingmaker or anything critical leads to her covering up anything again I don't want to think what could happen.

[It is a very, very, very low chance and Mouri knows it's unreasonable to fear what he just said, but still...he needs someone to talk it with and Black is right here]

That's my fault. I saw what happened with Mettaton, and I knew that it'd happen again if it ever came to me. [ ... ] But I didn't try to put any distance between us.

Though, it was wrong of you to expect she wouldn't do it again. She's only human, Detective. Even she's not going to be able to resist defending someone important to her, and I don't doubt you'd do the same thing if it concerned your daughter or your wife.

[ He's... very protective on this front. What she did wasn't right, but holding her up to a certain standard instead of accepting she might do it again isn't right either. ]

[Oh boy. Not even his wife is safe from his sense of justice. He once did mildly seriously consider indicting his wife for a murder she was a suspect for. It was far from being his best moment, and thankfully she was innocent and Conan intervened, buuuut...yeah]

You are right about that.

[And he is not going to reveal it. It doesn't sound like a smart move]

I suppose there's no sense in discussing that any further. What is done is done, and these times are not appropiate for fights and all that. I suppose I'll let it go in a day or two.

[ ...how forgiving, Detective. That makes him smile. ]
