WEEK 4.

WEEK 4 Three more have died this past week. Milla Maxwell was killed for breaking a rule, Chiyuki was murdered, and you all had a hand in executing Yoshikage Kira. It seems like this isn't going to stop any time soon. How many more will join them this week? Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... Despite the Wordsmith's reaction to the last trial, it seems as though you've been rewarded once again for a job that was...well, it was done, even if he didn't explicitly say it was well-done. Another door has opened in that stairway, it seems, leading you further down into the building; once again, there are more rooms down there, more things to occupy yourselves with. Or perhaps just more means to get creative with regards to how you take initiative with your fellow Apprentices. APPRENTICES REMAINING: 23 APPRENTICES REMAINING: 22 APPRENTICES REMAINING: 20

Of course I have! I'll speak out against them whenever I feel I can.

I don't expect my reign to be a long one. I just need enough time to get my revenge. After that... Well, I don't particularly care what happens.

I suppose it would be very different for you! My lifespan is practically nothing to you, isn't it? It must be strange to be surrounded by so many humans.

Fighting back against something, when it's a losing battle...

That's not something I understand.

Heh. That's life for us humans, I suppose. Death is an inevitability - even if you aren't killed in battle, you'll fall one day. Disease or old age will take you, even if nothing else can. That's not something any human can escape.

I can certainly see where it's pointless. But it's in human nature to fight for what we want, no matter how pointless it seems.

[That's probably the kindest thing he's ever said about humans before. It's a little strange to think about.]

In the end we're selfish creatures just clawing to get what we want in our allotted time. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don't. I plan on being one of the few who do everything they set out to do before I die.

[You know, she can respect that. In a number of ways it's the polar opposite of how Gems are taught the world works-- most Gems, even the likes of Jasper, are replaceable tools.

There's not a lot of room for individuality when you're a militarized caste system.]

You humans are a strange species.

Oh, we certainly are. You won't hear any arguments here!

[But it's sort of nice to talk about this with someone who isn't human. Not that he'd admit that, of course!]

I'm not surprised; I imagine it'd be difficult for you to live among us and not learn anything!

It's been different. I can't say it's a bad thing, though. So long as things aren't....

Not many Gems have had the experience I've had here.

Understandably so. Most humans don't go through games like this, surprisingly!

I would assume it's uncommon no matter where in the universe you are.

Presumably! Though I do have to wonder how our captor got the idea... Points for creativity, I suppose!

Not everyone has control of a monster made of shadows, either. I suppose.

It's certainly an impressive beast, isn't it? I've never seen anything like it! Dark Magic certainly doesn't work quite like that.

Whatever it is, it behaves like it's alive, in some sense of the word. It's creepy.
