WEEK 2.

WEEK 2 Two people are gone from the group. Zagi and Kamui are dead, twenty-five of you are still alive, and the first week in the Vault comes to a close. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; on Sunday morning, those klaxons are as annoying as ever but at the very least there aren't any bodies to be found. It can be assumed, perhaps, that you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost... However, those weird dreams aren't the only new thing around here; one of the previously closed-off section near the vending machine has opened up, revealing a spiral staircase leading up to the next floor. Actually, her animal form is about this big [he holds his hands out to indicate a few inches] and her humanoid form is five foot three. But Doloz was once four inches long herself, so I'm sure she'll grow.

As far as kraken go... I did know a giant squid, back before the civil war.

[Please don't talk to her about separate forms. You're just getting the blankest look until her brain latches onto something she does know and moves on.]

Did love find you on the battlefield or did you two get hitched after? The scar she has is pretty cool.

We were married before the war, actually. She has those scars from other exciting events.

Like what? A good fight with a fisherman?

I'd like to see a fisherman that could lay a scratch on her. No, actually she used to pick fights with criminals. Vigilante justice and all.

Your lobster wife is sounding cooler and cooler by the second. I swear, if I get to meet her someday, I won't let a harpoon be pointed at her.

[Doloz? Was that her name? Dolly.]

Were you a vigilante too?

Afraid not. But I did always admire that about her, from the moment we met.

Between you and me, Cherry, I'm actually kind of wondering if there's something more beneath that sweet smile of yours.

[Since she's kind of the same way herself, she knows. Pretty carefree and goofy. And that pisses certain people off to an almost hilarious degree.]

Really? What exactly do you mean by that?

[Do their names start with 'C' and end with 'aren'?]

Call it a captain's intuition. You don't get to be as high as I am without knowing a few tricks here and there, especially in how to face people.

[If it ever comes to blows again, Sigrun has a pocketful of salt from her robro to toss at her instead.]

Not that it's a bad thing, old timer, your manners must've earned you the friendship of pretty much everyone here. [... as has her lack of manners??] And it's not like you're hiding any bad intentions as far as I can tell, all honesty and good will, but I'm just curious about you, that's all. With your vigilante wife, long life, and civil war.

[He chuckles, seeming genuinely amused by the way this conversation is going.]

Well, it's true that I haven't been sitting around drinking tea for five hundred years. But I wouldn't know where to start, if I was going to start telling stories.

[captainobnoxious]

[This is what you get for talking to Sigrun about a lobster wife who'd be more than welcome into her friend's circle, honestly.]

Alright, I'll give you a place to start. How'd you and your crime-fighting wife meet?

[cherryblooded]

I was being a young hooligan at the time, and she told me to get out and - how'd it go - 'dump myself into a trash can'.

Then I picked a fight with her and she beat me up.

[captainobnoxious]

[THE GREATEST LOVE STORY SHE HAS EVER HEARD!!!]

Did you fall in love right then? Or did she have to kick your ass a little more before?

[Still better than Twilight.]

There was a little more ass-kicking involved.

[captainobnoxious]

[Honestly, if a man wants to impress Sigrun into marriage, he's gonna have to best her in a troll hunting spree. That's how it's gonna go. No acceptance otherwise. And she probably won't think about it otherwise anyway since she's duty and glory first.]

That's romance right there. Did you shape up for her? How long did it take for her to like you back?

[cherryblooded]

[He'd like to see that courtship.]

She's definitely the reason I reformed. If it weren't for her, I'd probably still be living that kind of life. And... hm, I'd say a few decades, at least? You'd have to ask her exactly when.

[captainobnoxious]

[A few decades must not be anything to them, being so obviously long lived, but she still gives a whistle.]

I certainly will. Man, that's cool. What was the war about?

[cherryblooded]

Succession. Our previous king had twin daughters - he appointed one to be the next ruler, before he fell into a sleep we're fairly sure he won't wake up from.

The other princess didn't take it very well.

[captainobnoxious]

Yikes. We don't really have that issue, since we can't afford to fight among ourselves anyway, but I can't deny that there's tension between the people who think the old world's a load of crap and we shouldn't bother with exploring it outside of our own countries and the people who, like me, want to see what else is out there.

[It's like an itch on her brain, where exactly she'd been heading out on her volunteered mission, but nothing's coming to mind.]

So, what happened in the end?

People took sides. The other side made a bargain they really shouldn't have, in order to gain power. Our side barely managed to prevail in the end because the Great Sorcerer sealed our enemies away, at the expense of his own life.

That's the short version.

[captainobnoxious]

And that's still a mouthful. Did both of you fight in the war?

[cherryblooded]

We did. Doloz can't resist getting involved in something when it upsets her morals, and I can't let my honey fight alone.

[captainobnoxious]

You're such a cool old person.

[Yup. What else...]

Were there people you knew that you had to fight against too? What was that like?

[cherryblooded]

Painful.
