Week 3.

WEEK 3

Another week has passed; two more Survivors are gone. Pearl and Caren both had someone to fight for, someone worth killing for; perhaps it's for the best to hope that somehow they've found peace despite not being able to collect on the Kingmaker's incentive.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. That doesn't mean the night passed easily, though - it seems another piece of your personal puzzle may have fallen into place while you slept...

Following that spiral staircase up to the second floor will reveal something strange; those stairs definitely lead far higher than you remember, up to a previously inaccessible third floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done.

SURVIVORS REMAINING: 23

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

Well, considering I've got no faith in your ability to do what I'm doing here and everything else seems a little out of your range [drums just feel like a mistake] I'd have to say that you should pick up one of the simple flutes. They'll be a good fit for all the air you blow.

[Having lung endurance is nice, okay. Mouri just has enough of it for ten people.]

I know how to play that one too, I just like this one better.
sleepingkogoro: (what was that)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-14 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mouri frowns. He can swear there are at least two backhanded insults in there. To avoid the conversation from devolving into petty back-and-forth - he still refuses getting that low - he picks up a flute]

A flute, huh. Don't people tend to get their fingers tangled when trying to do something with this?

[At least that is what he remembers hearing when he was in school, a long time ago. Just to test he blows into the flute -*fweee*-. At least it sounds nice, if a bit shrill]
captainobnoxious: (12 matter o' fact kids)

[Aaaah yes, a beginner's trill. Perfect.

Sigrun rubs her ear and laughs, shaking her head.]

Only if you're unpracticed! So you'll get like that at first, but as long as you learn to act like the flute's an extension of your hand it gets easy. Just like with a weapon.
sleepingkogoro: (this cant be right)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-15 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
And what, are you going to teach me?

[Sigrun says she knows to play the flute. It's either subjecting himself to the risks of being commanded by Sigrun in the musical field too or learn by himself while the survivors suffer from his attempts, although they are likely to last for a few hours only before he gives up.

He knows very well what he'd prefer so he's kind hoping Sigrun will say 'no']
captainobnoxious: (07 i am surrounded by tiny tots)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-15 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be honored to! Wow, to think that you'd ask a pro like myself to teach you -- well, that's not surprise, but still, to think you'd want to pick it up just because I'm good at it myself!

[She'll abandon her lyre to grab one of the simple flutes herself, settling down.]

We're gonna be here for a few hours every day, so you'd better eat before practice or bring a snack!
sleepingkogoro: (no way im wrong)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-15 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Geez, you sure are overflowing with self-confidence, aren't you? Mouri turns around for a moment to grimace towards the wall, what the hell did he just get into?]

A few hours?!

[Suddenly he regrets even entering the Music Room]

Surely you have a very busy schedule, what with being the leader of the Vault and all that. Are you sure you can find the time to teach me to play the flute?

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-16 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Fweeeee. That's a Wrong Answer, Mouri.]

What kind of leader would I be if I didn't try to make time for anyone who wants it?
sleepingkogoro: (i have no idea)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-16 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
...the kind of leader who wouldn't teach me to play the flute.

[That sure was mumbled. Mouri sighs, defeated]

Fine. A few hours every day.

...

What is the first lesson, then?
Edited 2016-03-16 10:46 (UTC)
captainobnoxious: (09 mmm!)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-16 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
We're gonna keep a steady stream of air going into the flute to see how long you can last and then improve on your breathing from there.

[... Provided that Mouri lasts longer than a few weeks, he's absolutely going to be a professional amateur flutist.]
sleepingkogoro: (no way im wrong)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-16 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That is all? That is easy.

[It doesn't sound like a difficult first lesson. It shouldn't be a problem.

There he goes! A steady stream of air. Ten, twenty...Mouri counted up to twenty-eight before he was forced to stop, gasping for air]

Ack! I think I went too far.
captainobnoxious: (06 don't talk much? too bad! i do!)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-17 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope! You're doing good! There won't be anything that's longer than half a minute [yes she was counting] so you're pretty on top of lessons already. Next, we'll learn the basic notes.

[Follow her!! She'll do the scale, showing him where to place his fingers.]
sleepingkogoro: (boast)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-17 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course I'd be on top of lessons already. That is how the great detective Kogoro Mouri does everything! Bwahahaha!

[Positive praise, how he yearned for thee.

In his enthusiasm he does try to follow the positions. It...actually wasn't that bad of an attempt. His fingers do get tangled at times but at least he isn't leaving the flute away in frustration, his attempts are getting somewhere.

This is more instantly gratifying than sewing and cooking - at least these first lessons are - so it is no surprise Mouri is getting more into this than into the other activities he has tried]

H-How long have you known to play the flute?

captainobnoxious: (12 matter o' fact kids)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-17 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
For hours if you mean as a performance, but I've been practicing for a long time. I picked up the lyre around the same time, since it's fun, but it wasn't until I started learning stories that I really got to playing that.

[Hours of play.]
sleepingkogoro: (think)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-17 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What do stories have to do with the flute? You can't tell any stories while playing this instrument.
captainobnoxious: (19 yeah that's broken)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-18 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why I played the lyre. Listen a little better, detective.

[Yeesh.]

The flute's supposed to accompany the lyre, so it's something I played when everyone else were telling their stories.
sleepingkogoro: (Default)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-18 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeeesh!

Mouri tries again the scale. Still not perfect - he needs to do it too slowly - but at least he hit all the notes]

Tell me a story, then.
captainobnoxious: (34 it's alright if you don't understand)

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-19 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Sigrun picks the lyre back up gently, humming thoughtfully.]

Alright, sure! I don't mind.

[It's going to be about her, after all. The tune's got a little of an aggressive tone to it now, befitting a gruesome tales, and Sigrun's putting on quite the show as well.]

In the heat of summer, trolls ran about
slithering and slimy as all gave a shout!
Sigrun the Brave, with twenty odd fellows
swooped in upon them as swift as a swallow!
Clangs, crashes, screams and more
devoured the silence before suddenly -- a roar!

[The notes heighten for dramatic effect with her half-snarl itself, a grin stretched across her face as she continues.]

A troll that felt not beast nor man
had decided to make its way through their land,
but Sigrun the Brave, the Great, the Wise,
took a dagger and stabbed it right between the eyes!
She tore it asunder and blood spilled out
marred the rock as it tried a new route,
but Sigrun drove the blade far in
'til she'd been pulled out by ten other men
and there it lay, beached as a whale,
while Sigrun and others had a bit of ale.

[And there the tale ends, apparently, as she hums a little and settles back.]

And that's how I wrecked my first giant.
sleepingkogoro: (no way im wrong)

[personal profile] sleepingkogoro 2016-03-19 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[That sure was a colorful tale. Unexpectedly colorful. What happened to the relative calm of the bard songs, this is not at all what he thought it would be.

Mouri visibly needs some time to recover]

[personal profile] captainobnoxious 2016-03-20 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I know, it's too awesome for words.

[Pluck pluck pluck. She's so happy about it.]
