Week 3.

WEEK 3 Another week has passed; two more Survivors are gone. Pearl and Caren both had someone to fight for, someone worth killing for; perhaps it's for the best to hope that somehow they've found peace despite not being able to collect on the Kingmaker's incentive. Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. That doesn't mean the night passed easily, though - it seems another piece of your personal puzzle may have fallen into place while you slept... Following that spiral staircase up to the second floor will reveal something strange; those stairs definitely lead far higher than you remember, up to a previously inaccessible third floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done. SURVIVORS REMAINING: 23

True. I could ask - he might even find that worth answering.

If not, he'll probably just be obtuse like he usually does.

[Which they're all familiar with by now, he's sure.]

Have you managed to get anything concrete out of him?

[amygdalae]

Not really. [Mostly because Bruce doesn't really talk to him unless needed, and most of the time it just goes to Bruce being frustrated at everything that the Kingmaker is doing. It's not really leading him anywhere.]

It's not concrete, but I think we're not in a desert, at least. He said something could be arranged for my wife if... last week's motive.

[amygdalae]

[Last week's motive... ah.

Bruce falls silent at that for a while. Last week... he knows (dreams?) better now, but the feeling of that lost, crushing sensation... it still haunts him. It's been a while since he had felt anything like that. Not since... well.

Best not to dwell on that.]

...I knew at that point I wasn't actually going to do it. I just wanted the information.

[Just to be clear. Doloz would never, ever forgive him for that.]

...no, I wasn't doubting you.

[He's here after all, isn't he?]

...It's easy to do that, doubt someone. Everyone has things they'd kill for.

[...that much is true. Bruce wants to say otherwise, but he knows there are two particular people he certainly wouldn't mind bashing their faces in if he could ever have the chance.]

That's why we can't doubt each other - especially when nothing's happened. [Well, somethings have already happened, but you know what he means.]

...I certainly hope you're right.

[But even his own optimism is waning.]

I'll do what I can.

[Bruce never really had any optimism, not really - he just makes himself believe because its the only option available. Its that or everything else he doesn't want to think, and none of that will help anybody.]

As long as we all do our best, there's nothing that the Kingmaker can do to us.

Certainly not.

[It's not like he can decide to just kill a random one of them, or anything.]
