Week 3.

WEEK 3

Another week has passed; two more Survivors are gone. Pearl and Caren both had someone to fight for, someone worth killing for; perhaps it's for the best to hope that somehow they've found peace despite not being able to collect on the Kingmaker's incentive.

Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. That doesn't mean the night passed easily, though - it seems another piece of your personal puzzle may have fallen into place while you slept...

Following that spiral staircase up to the second floor will reveal something strange; those stairs definitely lead far higher than you remember, up to a previously inaccessible third floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; consider it your reward for a job well done.

SURVIVORS REMAINING: 23

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

Exactly.

Anyone who takes this initiative of his is only going to die. It's horrible.

Granted they don't actually manage to get away with it if they do.

[But they've got a pretty decent track record going with the trials, so he's not extremely concerned. Probably more concerned about people actually murdering others than anything else.]

I didn't actually think he would pull something like this so soon though. It seemed like something of a leap compared to the first "incentive" of his. If I am to be completely honest, this one makes me feel more uneasy as well...
notjustawriter: (♛ will be your own)

[personal profile] notjustawriter 2016-03-20 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's always possible, I guess. But don't the trials so far seem to be designed so the killer doesn't get away?

[....]

He's good at gettin' under your skin. Makes me wonder what his story is.
pokexplorer: (❖ oh?)

[personal profile] pokexplorer 2016-03-21 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I'm not sure if two trials is a good enough test pool to say that for sure. All it takes is an extremely clever culprit to make things difficult for us.

[Then again, they might have been completely screwed with the first one if it weren't for the cutting ritual.]

As for our Kingmaker, I wonder the same. The question that has always been at the forefront of my mind is this: if we are supposedly survivors from our worlds, there must be something special about us being the ones who were saved. So why is the Kingmaker trying to make us kill each other?
notjustawriter: (♞ munchin' milky way-uhs)

[personal profile] notjustawriter 2016-03-21 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe not. I don't really want to think about how long this could possibly go on, though.

[.....]

Maybe it's got somethin' to do with human sacrifice. I've run into that before. It's not pleasant, but it has its uses in black magic. That's evil stuff.

With luck, not much longer...all we can really do right now is focus on getting through Friday.

[It's gonna go so well.

Also wow, that next bit was a little alarming. Colress can help but raise his eyebrows.]

Sacrifices for black magic? This is the second time I've heard you talk about something along those lines... Magic used for evil, I mean. The first concerned zombies. Do you do all of this research for your novels? Or is it an actual common practice in your world...?
notjustawriter: (♟ and the ground was dry)

[personal profile] notjustawriter 2016-03-22 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a common practice in my world, not that I know of. And I didn't do this research for my novel-- I witness this all firsthand.

[....]

It's kind of a long story.
pokexplorer: (❖ worry)

[personal profile] pokexplorer 2016-03-22 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Welp.]

You...witnessed black magic rituals firsthand. I trust you...weren't actually involved?

[He does acknowledge the long story part, it's just...please don't leave him hanging with that, Gabriel!]
notjustawriter: (♟ after three days in the desert fun)

can you really say spoiler warning for a game that's 23 years old

[personal profile] notjustawriter 2016-03-22 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
No. I wouldn't touch the stuff.

It's... complicated. I was dating a woman, see. Her name was Malia. [that past tense there probably isn't good] She was the leader of this cartel, as it happens. I sure can pick 'em.

Anyway... she was possessed, somehow. By this ancient witch named Tetelo who put a curse on my bloodline. I don't know what the ritual was for, but she warned me to leave town after a friend of mine was kidnapped-- I interrupted it, but in order to save me, Malia killed herself to prevent Tetelo from ritually killing anyone else.

WHY NOT

[personal profile] pokexplorer 2016-03-22 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Wow um.

That's rough, buddy.

Seriously though, he's not even sure what to say to any of that. He just...can tell that Gabriel has probably told him something pretty deep?]

Ah...I am sorry about Malia. [He's supposed to be sorry about that, right? HE HOPES.] Spiritual possession though, that is truly something astonishing. I can see why you would fear anything black magic-related happening here...

Did that sacrifice in turn break the curse as well?
notjustawriter: (♞ i went to find the truth)

[personal profile] notjustawriter 2016-03-22 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is.... pretty traumatic.

But talking about it helps, honestly.]

....Yeah. It broke the curse, gettin' rid of Tetelo.
pokexplorer: (❖ observation)

[personal profile] pokexplorer 2016-03-23 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
So it was bittersweet in the truest sense...

[It's really difficult for him to imagine a situation like that. What a tricky spot for Gabriel.]

I apologize that this conversation has appeared to dredge up some bad memories, Mr. Knight. But I do appreciate the story.

...Don't worry about it.

Sometimes people are forced to make terrible decisions.

....I guess it's no different than what we've been forced to do twice already.
