WEEK 4
Three more have died this past week. Milla Maxwell was killed for breaking a rule, Chiyuki was murdered, and you all had a hand in executing Yoshikage Kira.

It seems like this isn't going to stop any time soon. How many more will join them this week?

Saturday is given to regrouping and rest; on Sunday morning the clock chimes as it always has, but at least there are no bodies to find today. It seems you're safe for now. The night before wasn't necessarily a peaceful one, however; you'll probably feel a bit groggy when you wake up, and it seems you've regained something that you didn't realize you'd lost...

Despite the Wordsmith's reaction to the last trial, it seems as though you've been rewarded once again for a job that was...well, it was done, even if he didn't explicitly say it was well-done. Another door has opened in that stairway, it seems, leading you further down into the building; once again, there are more rooms down there, more things to occupy yourselves with.

Or perhaps just more means to get creative with regards to how you take initiative with your fellow Apprentices.

[Varric has no use for much of anything on the fourth floor. He wasn't much for hand-to-hand combat, and there was no way anyone was going to catch him in a poor deeper than himself. Nevertheless, he found himself up there, ambling about. He was more interested in the people, how they interacted with the place.]

[He paused at the door of the gym, staring in at the man therein. He paused, unsure of how to approach. He'd opted to give Killia space after everything that had happened. But a week was enough, and worry churned in his gut.]

[Not that he'd let it show just yet.]

I think you killed it dead by now.

Not quite. [ Punching it more because it's still in front of him, really. But after a more swings he stops with a sigh, shaking out his hands.]

...I've wanted to talk to you. [ He's just really not the best at approaching people first.]

Me? [They'd chatted a few times, and Varric had been there in the midst of all of the shit the previous week but... He doubted that cast him in a decent sort of light.]

What'd I do this time?

Mikazuki told me what you wrote for Christo.

I do it for anyone that deserves it. I didn't know Christo well, only talked to him after we arrived here but... He seemed a good man.

You both deserve better than this place.

If anyone deserves this place, it's me.

[ And then because it's kind of still on his mind.]

Christo...angels shouldn't be in the Netherworlds, let alone here.

Angels? [He'd... missed some of those revelations, apparently. Nevertheless he looked curious, if a bit guilty for making Killia talk about his friend.]

[In any case, it was easier to talk about then trying to convince Killia of his own worth. Much as Varric loved to do it, he simply didn't know enough about the kid to make a decent argument.]

He wasn't a demon, and he wasn't a human either. There's only one other type of being where I'm from, and those are angels from Celestia. They usually don't associate with demons, they tend to stick to themselves. If they go anywhere, it's usually the human realm.

[ It was easy to miss and Killia hadn't said what he had (basically) figured out except to one other person.]

He must have seen something pretty special in you then, if that's the case. [The dwarf's expression softened, and the look he gave Killia was one of absolute seriousness. When he finally did smile, it was one of the gentler sorts.]

He was a good man. I told him I would have a beer and tell him more about Bianca, but it never happened. I... regret that.

You'd have to ask him. [ He's still kind of miffed about it, but there wasn't really a point to being so with Christo being dead.]

Bianca?

[That didn't go as well as he hoped. Oh well then, changing the subject and moving onto something a little more pleasant? A lot more pleasant, really. Varric never passed up the opportunity to talk about Bianca.]

The most beautiful thing you'll ever meet. She and I killed all kinds of darkspawn, bandit, dragonlings, hell all manner of things together. One of a kind girl, she was.

The crossbows here aren't anything like her.

She's a...crossbow? Like Mikazuki? [ This is the first thing that came to his mind, whoops.]

Uh... [His brows drew together.] What about Mikazuki?

Is she a crossbow in human form?

No, no. Just a regular old crossbow. [...] Is Mikazuki a crossbow in human form?

He's a sword, a tachi.

[...]

I haven't heard of someone naming their weapon like that, except for him.

[This sure is news to him. And yet in a school of talking rabbits and magic rocks? It's not really surprising.]

I'm not like many other people. [Despite that little bombshell, Varric kept his composure, offering a wink to the demon.] Besides, a one-of-a-kind weapon like her deserved a good name.

What makes her special? [ He tilts his head, intrigued. Talking about weapons was something he enjoyed, especially in the absence of them here.]

The guy who first tried making her couldn't get her right. Either she wouldn't fire, wouldn't aim properly, that sort of thing. Eventually though, yours truly took the blueprints to one of the smartest dwarves out there.

[And then comes a sad sort of sigh.] I don't know where she is, but she's probably missing me.

[ So he's kind of still confused, because Varric's talking about her more like a person, but they've established that she is not in fact a crossbow spirit.

...but he's heard weirder things here.]

Probably with my sword, hauteclaire.

Well, at least she has good company then. I'm sure they'll keep each other company. Bianca's a real charmer, you know? Picked up a few storytelling pointers from yours truly.
