trusthell | Week 6.

WEEK 6
The number of Survivors left is dropping at a quick pace; the King got what he wanted, for better or for worse; Tarrlok and Lynne were victims of both fate and some sort of magic that most in the Vault still don't quite understand, and Misa Amane has been executed, not for her particular brand of "justice", but for murdering two innocent people.

It's been a bad week.

However, Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not...

Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible sixth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; you've done well. You've earned it.

Easy to remember, good. Favorite colors of you three?

Red for all of us.

I thought for sure it'd be pink.

[But alright. Red heart, red circle, red diamond.]

Why red? Why not, saaaaay, orange? The best of all colors in the whole wide world?

My soul's orange, apparently, so I'm more fond of it now than I was.

But my wife is red and my daughter's hair is red, that's reason enough for me. Doloz says she likes my eyes.

Mine is too! That's so cool.

[... Cherry knew that, but she didn't know that his was that color too, okay.]

I wonder why it's the same. And who else we share it with. Maybe I'll ask bombshell sometime, see if he's got any idea.

[Genuinely so. Sigrun is an admirable woman, and if he has something essential to his soul that's the same as hers, he can't be that bad.]

It's nothing that big anyway. [it so is] Just thinking about leader stuff. Nothing anyone else needs to worry about but me.

[And how it's dragging her by the heels lately, with people's faith and Mettaton's words about cutting losses.

... He'd said that she wasn't failing any of them either. She should've thanked him for that instead of going off on how pointless things felt.]

Being a leader's difficult. I told you I couldn't handle it like you can.

[Just. Makes it worse here.]

[She looks like she wants to say something, grimacing slightly, but it draws back into an easy smile and shrug.]

It is. But it's rewarding, you know? Having so many put their trust in you, [wrongfully,] knowing that they're depending on you to keep them safe, [and failing,] it's a nice feeling.

[Most of the time.]

Imagine it would be. Suppose how you handle it depends on if the rewards balance out the strain.

[He doesn't know how bad it's getting to her, but it's definitely strenuous.]

[There's no way she can tell Cherryblod about it.

So she sits up straight again, doodling small ghosty figures at a corner of her paper. It sucks when people have such faith in you.]

And I am an expert at balancing that! Coming from years and years of experience, you know, and compared to the surprise of the field this place is a vacation for me. Everything feels like it's on a schedule.

Kind of depressing how regular it is.

[because he believes in her so much how could she possibly break that]

We can't save everyone like I wanted to. Can't protect them, either. It's tough to know that as a leader.

[... That's pretty much the only thing about her problem that he's getting out of her.]

But being a leader also means that despite knowing that, you keep safe those you can because it's your duty. Even if they keep falling, even if things aren't going the way you want them to, you keep on until you're finished.

[One way or another. Even knowing this, though... it's still hard. Just how hard it is isn't something she can disclose.]

[At least her grin's a real one, shoving her shoulder against Cherryblod's. Even if it's still going to be a nagging worry in her mind... it does help. A little.]

Of course! I wouldn't trust anyone else with this job either, you know? Giving up's just out of the damn question when it comes to my family.
