WEEK 6 The number of Survivors left is dropping at a quick pace; the King got what he wanted, for better or for worse; Tarrlok and Lynne were victims of both fate and some sort of magic that most in the Vault still don't quite understand, and Misa Amane has been executed, not for her particular brand of "justice", but for murdering two innocent people. It's been a bad week. However, Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible sixth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; you've done well. You've earned it. Uhm sure? I mean, you're right.

[It is a good idea, and now that Yosuke has a moment to resettle himself he flips the pages of his notebook and starts sketching the basic shape out- to an outsider it certainly looks a lot like a cabinet. ]

It needs doors and shelves inside to put the items in. Stuff for the kami or the Buddha usually, and mementos from your ancestors. Like, mine back home has my grandparents ashes in it.

Stuff like wishes are usually more for big shrines, but we're kinda mixing and matching with what we got here.

[His family is pretty contemporary, so this kinda thing was always pretty relaxed in his home]

[It's a cabinet.]

Uh... huh. I'm not gonna pretend to understand why, so you just draw it up and I'll make it work. Does it need to be painted or anything?

[YES IT'S A CABINET SIGRUN. look you gotta be practical with your shrines]

We should try to make it as nice as possible, yeah. Or it'll be an insult. I mean, if Yato isn't already mad about what we had.

[He sounds pretty relaxed about it though- it's Yato, he doubts he minded too much]

I'll leave that to you all then. We can each do a part of something like that. You draw, I build, everyone else puts their own little thing on it.

[That sounds nice, right? And then she won't be the one insulting the gods if someone decides to draw a dick on it.]

... It really just looks like a cabinet though, you know. Is this really how you honor your dead? And gods.

Only the small ones in homes. We only have so much space, you know? Like, the big public shrines are WAY fancier. They're whole buildings, with arches and statues. We have festivals there, especially at New Year's.

[It's so STRANGE to him to be explaining all this- things that are just such a basic part of his life that it's hard to think of it from the outside]

[Yeah, well, the vikings just used the lay of the land for their worship, setting up a little space like this is kind of weird.]

Oh. I can do little statues too. And arches. We can make it a little fancy since he's a god of fortune!

Heh, sounds good! It's weird, I've never had to really think about this much. We've had the same shrine since before I was born so...

[He assumes he'll have to get one for his own home once he moves out, but it's never really occurred to him before]

[She's gonna make all the cat statues. Tiny cats.]

I don't think about it too much either. We just use the places that're left over from the old world and stuff like that.

[... That said, the chapel is still a weird place, since she herself prefers just to do a thing in her own room.]

Are your shrines passed down? Doesn't that disrupt the gods?

Well, the house shrines are more for our family members then any specific gods. So like, when my parents die or move in with me I'll take over it's upkeep.

[He makes a face at that idea: he's only 18 he doesn't wanna think about that]

[Ohhh. Huh.]

Sounds like an honor. It means you're trusted to keep up tradition, even if it might seem like a pain. You do a pretty good job with the little thing we've got for them now too.

Well I AM the eldest son... I mean, I'm the only kid period but still. And well... you know, it's nice, having something that I do everyday, yeah?

[captainobnoxious]

[Only kid buddies!!! Sigrun is so happy. Look at her.]

Yeah! I know what you mean! I mean, for both of those actually, I'm an only child too so it's pretty much on my head to do a lot of this and that and carry on the family name and what not, and it's nice to have a routine in a place like this. Keeps you sane. Mostly.

Sometimes I wonder if that's all that IS keeping some of us sane...

I'm sure just talking to someone helps them out too.

[... Like she Knows something, which is quickly uncovered by a shoulder bump.]

Thanks for taking care of kitten. Buuuut your sneaking sucks, you know.

Well, now that's suspicious. I just assumed you two were hanging out, but if something happened, I'd like to know.

[It's almost threatening. Almost. Black's her charge bro.]

It really wasn't like that! Honest!

[His voice drops to something sad and legit worried]

...I mean, hell, the guy just remembered his sister is dead... I'm not like that.

[...that does kinda imply that he's not against the idea over all. If Yosuke notices his implications it doesn't show]

[... Well, it's not like Sigrun's gonna bully him about it, it's perfectly a-okay by her. She's just kind of happy that Black has a chance see kitten she told you he'd come around. It's something to tease her glasses child about.]

And you're a good guy for it, Yosuke. [She'll ruffle his hair. His fakey-fake hair.] I'm glad Black's got a friend like you, someone closer to his age he can just hang around with and not call miss or mister. I know you'll do right by him too.

Ngh, Sigrun!

[He looks about ready to bolt from implication alone]

What? I just mean that you'll treat him well! Since he got bullied a lot when he was younger, I mean, I bet he didn't have many friends growing up and all.

[Sheesh. Like, she absolutely was giving her blessing, but still.]

...yeah, he mentioned that back at the speed date. I don't get why- he's a nice guy.

[Yosuke knows he can be kinda clingy and pushy and tactless- so as much as he denies it, he at least deep down knows why HE never had a lot of deep friendships before Inaba. But Black isn't him.

Or maybe he's biased]

Right? Really fun to be around, too, and to tease the living daylights out of. He's one of my favorite people here. Like, third favorite maybe.

But sometimes people just don't know how to make friends with others. It kind of means they have to open themselves up even a little, and he might not be the kind of person who does that really easily. The fact he's shared anything with anyone here is really nice then, don't you think?

[He nods slowly]

He does take awhile to open up. I half had to trick him last night.

Yeah? How'd you trick him? I usually just push him around until he says something.

[... Because she's a steamroller.]

Not exactly a trick, but more he didn't want to tell me anything until I took a shot in the dark and guessed right.

I... didn't expect it to be as bad as it was.
