Week 6.

WEEK 6 The number of Survivors left is dropping at a quick pace; the King got what he wanted, for better or for worse; Tarrlok and Lynne were victims of both fate and some sort of magic that most in the Vault still don't quite understand, and Misa Amane has been executed, not for her particular brand of "justice", but for murdering two innocent people. It's been a bad week. However, Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible sixth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; you've done well. You've earned it. G'morning, Speedy. [ Shirazu inclines his head in greeting as he enters the kitchen and notices the man. ]

[isafraid]

[Speedwagon glances up, arms elbow-deep in the sink. His sleeves are thankfully rolled up.]

Ah, Shirazu. Morning to yourself. Come by for breakfast?

[ignorantly]

Yep. [ He immediately heads for the fridge to grab the ingredients for a large cheese and mushroom omelette. ]

I didn't expect to see you here washin' the dishes.

[isafraid]

Someone's got to be doing it, why not do my part?

[That said he's... kind of making a soapy mess. This is how they did it in the Old Days.]

...Not as many people around to do them anymore.

[ignorantly]

[ His expression flickers for a moment at that; it's something he's been trying not to think about too much. ]

...We've lost nearly half of the group.

[isafraid]

[It's something he's thought about too much already.]

Just about. Twenty-seven at the start. Plenty of good people.

[There's even death in his dreams...]

[ignorantly]

And we're probably going to lose more...

[isafraid]

Now that's no way to think about it! [He glances up at Shriazu, accidentally splashing himself. Whatever, he's trying to make a point.]

Thinking about it like that is just asking to end up with a shiv in your back. Something I don't think anyone wants anymore of at this point.

[ignorantly]

...Sorry. [ He lifts his hand to rub at the back of his neck. ]

It's just kinda hard to be optimistic when people keep dyin' every week.

[isafraid]

....Yeah, no need to start apologizing.

[He's nodding a bit, looking away as he works. He can clean and talk at the same time.]

Just last week there were four deaths that would have never deserved any thing like that... [Especially the King.] Seeing as we're down to about half, there's not much I can say about not keeping hopeful.

[ignorantly]

I want to believe the murders will stop but... [ His shoulders slump a little. ] ...but he keeps giving us incentives and I'm sure we're going to find a body in a few days.

[isafraid]

Even saying that there will be... [He starts, a clear idea in his voice.] It's all got to reach an end at some point.

[He breathes a sigh.] I'm not looking to kill anyone for anything as slight as an impossible motive. [He glances in Shriazu's direction.] You?

[ignorantly]

I'm not gonna kill anyone. [ He says this firmly, with no hesitation behind it. ]

I don't think I could live with sentencin' everyone else here to death.

[isafraid]

Well, then we're both in the same standings on that issue. [That's surprisingly nice to know, hearing how firmly and adamantly Shirazu denies the idea.]

...Suppose I haven't told you, did I? About what I was doing before I ended up here?

[His face, once more, slips away from the kid's direction.]

[ignorantly]

[ He shakes his head. ]

No, you haven't. What were you doin'?

[isafraid]

I was a thief, in simple terms.

[He states it so simply, as if he were just asking about if Shirazu wanted a sandwich or some such.]

Kind of sort you'd find living on the street. It's not entirely wrong, I did grow up on the worst street in London town.

[ignorantly]

[ He goes quiet for a moment at that, as though contemplating what to say, his eyebrows furrowing a little. ]

I don't like thieves, but... you did what you had to do to survive, right?

[isafraid]

[He never expects any of them to take the news well. But it's better to let them know about it now then learning about it when he's dead. Still, he couldn't find the energy to look back at him. Better to just finish up these dishes.]

That's what it all came down to at the end of the day. I stole things, but never lives.

[...]

Seeing as we're all stuck here, I've been thinking. Everyone should hear about it if I'm still breathing. It's better that way.

[ignorantly]

...Thanks, I suppose? I appreciate your honesty, Speedy.

[ ... ]

I don't think any less of you. You're still a good guy.

[isafraid]

[...He chuckles, finally looking back.]

Don't think I'll get tired of that. Haven't felt this accepted in possibly all my life.

[And, with that, he starts to drain the sink. All the dishes are set out to dry.]
