WEEK 6 The number of Survivors left is dropping at a quick pace; the King got what he wanted, for better or for worse; Tarrlok and Lynne were victims of both fate and some sort of magic that most in the Vault still don't quite understand, and Misa Amane has been executed, not for her particular brand of "justice", but for murdering two innocent people. It's been a bad week. However, Saturday is given to regrouping and sleep; there aren't any bodies to be found on Sunday morning. But that doesn't mean the night was uneventful - it seems something else may have brought you some newfound clarity. Or perhaps not... Once again, that spiral staircase leads farther than you remember, clear up to a previously inaccessible sixth floor. Go ahead and explore as much as you like; you've done well. You've earned it. Nevermind that, it's easy! Even a kid could build a simple house if they really wanted to. Maybe I'll do a little something a little more proper for fancy toes.

I wasted energy trying to save a cat and her family.

One of the kittens survived, though. Cute little guy. I can't say I was too happy about having another new mouth to feed, I guess, but a cat's useful anyway. More than the stowaway.

It wasn't a very smart cat. [huff] Kept scratching at me when I was trying to get her down.

...That my family might be dead has dropped from the worst case scenario to the second-to-worst case scenario.

Sounds like I've been getting off well with my dreams, everyone else's sucks. I mean, besides the one where I got bit by a troll. That one hurt like hell.

[... and even then it wasn't all that bad, but maybe she's desensitized to injuries like that.]

Okay. So what's the worst case scenario?

...I'll try to make this short.

The Sea of Death is more like an entity than an ocean, or both at once. It preys on the vulnerable, gets inside of them and hollows them out until there's nothing remaining of the person that they used to be. I saw it happen to people back during the civil war, but it was sealed away back then.

Someone broke that seal. My wife and daughter are in the middle of the Sea of Death.

It's kinder to simply kill someone than to use their body as a puppet.

[It kind of reminds her of the enemy that Aqua's fighting back home. How they're made up of negative emotions. It also reminds her of the Illness she deals with in her world, too, with how it uses things as puppets. Anyone who's infected is killed or quarantined as soon as they possibly can depending on the area.]

How likely is it that the sea witch you know will be able to fix it?

Well. Her father was the one to seal it the first time, so technically, I think she should be able to by the same method.

...He died to seal it away, and I'm not happy hoping for something I know will kill a girl younger than my daughter, so I'd like to hope there's another method.

[captainobnoxious]

But if there's no other way, there's no other way. I'm sure she knows that, too.

But people tend to want to live, so, you know, who knows? Maybe she'll figure one out. Meanwhile, you have to trust your family's strong enough to not be taken over by it.

[That's. Reassuring. Even though he knows she's right...]

...They'll be fine. My Doloz would never let anything like that have its way with her, and Lobco's stronger than anyone I know.

Then you'll worry yourself to an early grave if you keep thinking about it, and where would they be without you?

[Hope you're ready for some personal boundaries to be breached, Cherry, because Sigrun's got a one-armed hug with your name on it.]

Right in the heart of it's gotta be pretty tough. I bet it's the strongest there too, like a whirlpool. [that. that is not helping.] But if they're anything like you, anything like you've told me, then they'll just be sitting there wondering what all the fuss is about.

They'll be fine. They're far better than I am, so nothing has a chance.

I thought for sure it'd be pink.

Why red? Why not, saaaaay, orange? The best of all colors in the whole wide world?

My soul's orange, apparently, so I'm more fond of it now than I was.

But my wife is red and my daughter's hair is red, that's reason enough for me. Doloz says she likes my eyes.
